Combine drawings and indicators

I'm happy to announce that you can now add drawings to the indicator study area both on desktop and mobile of the IG charts. This new functionality has been developed on the back of client feedback submitted to Community, from within the dealing platform, and directly with our Trading Services and client facing teams. If you have any other requests, please add them in the comment section below and we'll make sure the charting dev team and product owners see them.

You can now draw on indicators

For instance, get more insight from your RSI indicator by drawing a trendline directly on the study area. The ability to draw on these indicators, such as MACD and volume, opens up a number of new options for technical analysis. Trends, for example, can add granular insight into market dynamics and can help improve the accuracy of your TA and strategy.

But that's not all...

We also;

  • added the measure tool to the mobile charts and made it persistent on your screen so that it does not disappear when you tap or click away.
  • improved the usability of the charts so that you cannot move your drawings by mistake when moving your charts sideways. To move a drawing, you would need to explicitly select it first.
  • improved the general rendering performance of these drawings.

Coming very soon!

  • we've added the option to activate or deactivate the snapping on the candles. This should be rolled out around mid October.

All the best and happy trading

Guest Range Bars and Renko chart

Could we have "Renko" charts and "Range bar" charts please ?

Except, IG, that your MT4 platform does not refresh automatically, and unless you remember to refresh every chart every time you open it, you are looking at the past, not the present!

Hi @Gabo,  not sure what was going on with your MT4 but I have never needed to refresh, the platform has always done it automatically on start up same as every other platform.

The very first time you open MT4 after download you get the 'waiting for update' sign for the preloaded template charts to open but you just close and reopen MT4 and everything loads after that (same if you have added a new indicator to the indy folder, it needs a restart for it to appear).

Hi @Gabo - as caseynotes said, your MT4 platform should of course update in real time. Please open a new forum thread with specifics if you would like further assistance and we can continue the discussion there.

Hi, Please add the functionality of adding Stochastic and RSI overlay on the chart as eSignal is having.

Hi is it possible for IG to make available the NZD/CAD pair - can not understand why IG does not support trading this pair? not enough demand was the reason given the last time I inquired - how would IG know this if the FX pair is not available to trade?

Thanks Casey...

I should have been a bit more specific, NZD/CAD is not a pair offered for MT4 by IG.

IG supports 27 of the 28 major FX pairs only whilst using the MT4 platform.

Hi @Ozee,  NZDCAD is on the MT4 platform as well, you need to update your feed. Open the 'Market Watch' panel then right click anywhere in market watch and click 'Show all'. This will update the list and you should find nzdcad though you may have to restart mt4 first.

Hi Casey...

Yeap, I have done all that you asked me to do and I still do not see NZD/CAD.

Strange though, the last time I had an email from IG stating that - this is a FX pair that they do not offer to trade as there in not enough demand was the reason given but they 'may' offer it at a later date. I am a bit confused as to how you have access to it.

I will probably give the IG trading desk a bell tomorrow and see what they say this time round...thanks again for your troubles.

@Ozee,  I can't see that I have missed out a step or anything, it should have worked. I am presuming you are with IG Australia so maybe they have a different list? Never looked at this one closely before but it looks like quite a well behaved pair  >>

Hi Casey...

just spoken to IG, technical and help desk and been informed that this FX pair NZD/CAD is not made available on the MT4 demo platform, something to do with the configuration in MT4 demo mode and is unlikely to be offered in the future.

Presently I only use the 'IG live platform' to place my trades & use the demo MT4 for more indepth technical analysis. I probably will have to delete the IG MT4 account and go with another broker like Oanda who do not limit the 28 major FX pairs on MT4.

many thanks for your help...

I am using a live MT4 account however I do not have the NZD/CAD pair in my symbol list. I have clicked "Show All" but NZDCAD does not appear to be one of the symbols available.

Is there a trick to get it into the symbols list?

HI bearata,  as is noted above in this thread though nzdcad is on the live mt4 platform IG does not include it on the mt4 demo platform.

Sorry beardata, I misread the question. If nzdcad doesn't show after clicking 'show all' in the watchlist on the live platform try restarting mt4.
