Hi,

I'm new to the site and was hoping someone could help with a little query regarding Total Account Value. My total account value doesn't seem to equal book cost + available cash + profit/loss - total charges and seems to be a way out.

I wasn't sure if I'm missing a charge somewhere or if i've simply got the equation wrong.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Ben

Make that 3 of us. Anyone any closer to an answer? Do you trade in different currencies?

I am from the UK and trade mainly in US stocks. I lost a decent chunk yesterday though, for no apparent reason?

Exchange rates haven't changed too drastically over the past week.

Any advice @ig?

I saw the same on my account. I figured though it was me depositing GBP and purchasing USD names at a certain FX rate.

If you make USD gains but the GBPUSD FX rate increases too that that will reduce the value of that USD gain in GBP.

Thats how I explained my difference anyway - account value broken out on the daily statement too which may help.

Looks like the balances on most peoples accounts are out. mine too..

Could it be the planned maintenance.. Even said they shouldnt be playing with peoples account values during maintenance, that could cause all sorts of issues and stress for different types of people.

Keep our data accurate please IG - even during maintenance.

Can anyone advise if the account value can be wrong out of trading hours or when the site is in maintenance, because my Positions total is much less than the total value of all the individual positions added up. This is about a 30% error.

I think so - mine is doing the same. Very odd; it seems like some sort of glitch this evening, I've not seen this before.

I panicked initially when I first logged in this evening!

I don't seem to have received my daily statement today either. Must be due to the holiday perhaps?

I'm the same....my total value and book value are both wrong by almost $2k this morning and wasn't sure how often statements were sent but realised I didn't receive any last week. No public holidays here so bit concerning.

I hope its just because of the maintenance because mine is also wrong.

Same here. I panicked when I see my total account value is less than the real value. Turns out I'm not the only one.

I checked my account this morning and the value is wrong. I was about £3000 missing which gave me a fright. The individual share values appear ok but the total is nuts.

Same here, my portfolio lost big portion of amount and the total amount does not make any sense. I believe this involves with the recent maintenance but hope the platform fix this issue ASAP as this is our REAL MONEY ACCOUNT.

Same here, my account's total value doesn't match the real value of my shares. I've contacted helpdesk and I'm waiting for their response.

I'm also concerned, I'm calling IG now, waiting to talk to someone, hopefully this is just due to maintenance, but it would be much better customer service if someone from IG could actually post a message / email to say what's going on. If my regular bank account just wiped many thousands of my account, that wouldn't be acceptable.

Called IG, there is an automated message saying that incorrect account value is a display problem and will be corrected later today. I guess no one from IG reads the forum.

I’m still having problems with my total account value as I sold some stock and made a profits but not showing the correct value even after I deducted the fees. Anyone else having the same problem?

tbh from day 1 I started the trading even let’s say in on profit £200 but my total value will not add up to what I invested plus £200.

can anyone help?

Hi, is this because of the settlement period (days)?

see pic below.

You should try contacting helpdesk if it's a glitch problem. The problem I had few weeks ago was wrong account value due to glitch on their website. Maybe it was because of the maintenance. Anyway, maybe your problem is because of selling on bid when the stock value was at offer?

    • Everyone, it seems accepts the result of the recent  US elections, except the President and half of the GOP.  Convinced of his own meritless delusions of fraud and other voting chicanery, he now pursues a policy of obfuscation, denial of service and general spite while mad dog Giuliani and even madder Sidney Powell pursue laughable cases in various courts in the vainglorious expectation that 6 million perfectly legal votes will somehow be annulled/ cancelled and cease to  exist. This is not to be, though the only realists in the GOP are keeping their own counsel on the subject, thereby enabling the Presidents' persistent delusions. That's the problem when you believe your own propaganda, it is easy to become confused with reality. Apart from hiding rotten fish behind the radiators of the White house and carving his name on the Resolute desk, soon to be ex president Trump is doing his best to make the transition for "sleepy" Joe as difficult as he can. This includes a tacit refusal to provide more stimulus.  He has instructed Steve Munchkin to end funding for various emergency programs to the tune of $438 billion., thereby hampering the incoming Treasury secretary before he/she even walks through the door. This has rightly upset Jerome Powell who has the interest of the US economy as his overarching priority. Unfortunately, the President is unmoved by the needs of the American public as he feels they have betrayed him.  Why reward treachery? Trump is known for his heartless ardour when crushing those he deems as unworthy, which in this case is the American people as a whole, overcome as he is with nihilistic zeal.  Playing golf while ignoring a health crisis , at the same time as full denial in the face of outright defeat, does not an effective president make. Indeed, might I venture his very legacy as president and future GOP kingmaker hang very much in the balance, indeed may have been irretrievably  lost. Like Trump, lost with nowhere to go. Though he will surely be welcomed in Turkey, Russia, not to mention North Korea.  The markets really want to break higher and gap up to new ATH's but Trumps intransigence, denial (of Covid and the election results) and general spite ( no new stimulus)are causing a state of intermarket bearish divergence, with the SP and Nasdaq refusing to break into new ATHs(all time highs).  I guess we will have to wait until he is forced out come 20th Jan.
    • Good article (new) on strategy planning and testing from Steve Burns. https://www.newtraderu.com/2020/10/25/how-to-create-backtest-and-optimize-a-trading-strategy/ "A trading strategy is the process used to enter and exit positions in a market based on quantified signals on when to buy and sell. A trading strategy will have trading plan to express a methodology that defines a trader’s return goals, risk tolerance, and time frame. A successful strategy should have an edge expressed in how trades are entered and managed to maximize gains and minimize losses."
