Transferring US Shares to IG - some questions

Recommended Posts

Hi to anyone reading this,

I'm new to this forum and hope these questions haven't already been answered. If they have please do close this post and redirect me.

Some years back I opened a Charles Schwab US account and transferred money over to the US to start trading. I have a few longer term US holdings and want to transfer into IG but trying to get my head around some tax related points and 'where' my money would physically be:

Currently the dividend payments in the Schwab account are instantly taxed 15% - Does the same tax apply to the same US stocks held in IG?
Are the share holding converted to share CFDs or actual shares?
Is my money technically back in Australian shore?
And if I selling a holding, I assume I could then just withdraw/transfer that cash into my normal Australian bank account?

Hope these aren't silly questions!

    • Can anyone shed light on what the volatility index on IG tracks? It doesn't seem to track the classic VIX index, neither those that are a few weeks or months out. I figured it may be an average of say the first and second month VIX futures, but can someone clarify what the underlying is? Thanks!
    • I am able to sell the ETFs using quote. Problem is it is very tough to get IG's phone. I was in a queue for more than 30 minutes. and no answer.
    • and so suddenly, within the last few days; - Vit D finally gets govt recommended. - Invermectin finally gets approval. - HCQ now suggested as a treatment instead of being banned. - WHO finally revises PCR test to reduce huge ratio of false positives.   With all these much cheaper treatments now available it's lucky for big Pharma then that all their vaccines have already been bought up for the next few years. 🙄   .
