Day Trading US Stocks - not CFDs but shares in Demo Account

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have opened a CFD demo account. I would like to know if it is possible if shares can be traded prior to the US markets open.

I understand the difference between CFDs and shares, but I realise that IG does not have CFDs (or many of them) for the US stock markets. So, is there a way of trading shares in the demo account. It states that as I have a CFD demo account I can not place say $2000 of shares on LJPC as 'MARKET ONLY TRADEABLE IN STOCKBROKING. This stock is only available for non leveraged trading, please call for more details'.

If I opened a live account can shares be traded in the CFD account or would I need a 'pure' shares/equity account?

Your help is much appreciated

Thanks

K

Hi, No you can only Buy and Sell shares using the Share Dealing platform.  you cannot Demo Share Dealing, However, I assure you, it's the same as CFD or Spread Betting, except it costs you to Buy and Sell but the Spreads are Tighter.

I Trade Shares now instead of Spread Betting.  The Spreads on Small Cap stock made it impossible to Day Trade.  Of course there are downsides such as Tax, but you gotta make a profit first! :D

HI @nit2wynit

You appear to be doing the same as me, buying and selling small cap US stocks.  IG doesn't have them all (ITP for example).

The fees are killing me right now, $10 per trade and they take commission on every currency conversion.

From next month there should be zero commission.. though I am not sure about the currency fees..?

So I have a couple of questions if you could help it would be appreciated..

1.  If I enable Level 2 data that should give me Real Time prices from the exchanges?

2. Is Pro Realtime of any use to me?

3.  Is it possible to trade in the US extended hours?  Its so frustrating seeing price move on Yahoo but I can do

nothing about it..  I know some brokers offer extended hours, but does IG?

TIA

Hi, sorry, I'm not receiving notification to messages.

You can onyl use PRT with Spread Betting, not Buying and selling shares.

I've not used L2 but there is a fee per month.

There are certain stocks to trade but the number is limited after hours.

3 trades in the previous months allow FREE* trading the following month.  I scalp almost every day so only small commisions $0.01 per trade.  They make money on the Spread.

Happy Trading. :D

    • It is a best practice to buy dip and sell high but this strategy mostly doesn’t go as planned because you can’t predict the final bottom. Some traders BTD anticipating a potential pullback which mostly doesn’t happen and this force some into panic selling. DYOR is mostly advisable but some people fail to know which analysis they should focus more on. When deciding to hold a token for a long-term FA is very important and its cardinal point should be thoroughly scrutinized before making such a decision. These points include; Whitepaper, Road map, and Usecase. These points have a huge impact on deciding how long to hold a project and also booast your confidence in the project's bullish potential.  The first principle in this industry is “invest what you can afford to lose" though many neglect this principle as such when a project is going through a price correction they panic sell and sell at a huge lost. Most normal regret their decision later when they see the project back on track. Once you adhere to the first principle you hardly fall victim to panic sales. Note that it is mostly not advisable to hold meme tokens una less you are convinced because meme goes with the hype and finds it hard to retest its ATH once the hype is over.  Anyway what are your trading strategy and principles you adhere to most?
