Newbie here: Are the charts in realtime for demo accounts?

Recommended Posts

I used a Demo account for a few weeks.  The data feeds, and hence the charts, seem to be the same as Live, i.e., perfectly real-time.

Just note, however, that the trading experience is not the same.  On Demo, every order goes through at the exact price you ask for, with no slippage.

Thankyou so much. How is your trading going? Anymore hints to help this problem?

The Demo account is good to watch the way markets move, and to learn your way round the interface quickly and efficiently.  I tend to nurse and tweak my positions as the situation evolves rather than "fire-and-forget", so it's important I can make adjustments rapidly and accurately.

A strategy that is only slightly profitable in Demo might not be profitable in Live.  A strategy that loses in Demo will definitely lose in Live.  Slippage works both ways, of course: sometimes you close in profit at a more favourable level than you requested.  It just seems that overall Live is a bit harsher on you than Demo is.

The best way I found to learn was in Live, with minimal stakes.  IG give you 31 days of reduced minimums on a new account (or were doing a month ago).  Take advantage of it, provided of course that the amounts involved will not hurt much to lose.  It was not long enough for me, though!  I'm not consistent enough yet and my 31 days have run out, but fortunately the standard minimum stakes on the markets I trade are within my risk tolerance.

That is a great reply. I am a scalper successful in demo BUT I only take about 20 pips or 30pips adjusted. Would that be enough for slippage? Apologies for not replying sooner. Just doing a 1:1 risk at moment. Trading mostly USD/JPY.

Any other tips would be great. I just use 2 indicators and trading the 1minute chart

A lot depends on having a repeatable system that survives rigorous testing and when you apply it. Slippage often occurs on big news events and can hit 20 pips even on the relatively placid UJ so best to avoid routine news and wait to see which way next before looking for the next entry.

    • So, the vaccines are not actually vaccines because the don't protect you from getting covid but might just reduce the symptoms somewhat, for a disease were 99.9% experience only mild symptoms anyway. With the animal studies of previous types of mRNA medications the real test was 6 - 12 months after injection when the autoimmune system malfunctions started to show, should be interesting as no one knows what's going to happen next because these vaccines were allowed to skip the animal testing phase.   Now that the plan has been shown to work are you ready for the gear change from covid lockdowns to climate change lockdowns yet? The WHO starts flashing hints. WHO warns a coronavirus vaccine alone will not end pandemic (cnbc.com)   And if the covid models were a deliberate fear mongering total exaggeration take a look at the climate change ones.     Meanwhile Fauci over steps the line and gets a well deserved ear full.
