What qualifies an ETF to be held within an ISA trading account?

I'm gradually shifting my strategy towards a more macro and ETF based approach. I'm currently looking for exposure to the World Energy Sector. What exactly qualifies an ETF to be held within an ISA? The IG ETF screener seems to suggest that there are no ETFs available!

Do I need to look for a different provider?

Hi @underestimateme,

The HMRC decides which instruments are ISA eligible and which are not.

I'm sharing this link updated every morning with you, which has a full list of instruments on Share Dealing. There is a column "ISA eligible" which indicates if it's ISA eligible.

Thanks,

Jakub

Amazing. Thank-you.

Out of interest, what are the criteria that the HMRC bases their decisions on?

That's above everyone's pay grade - funds/ETF's have to meet FCA approval to be allowed to hold within a tax efficient wrapper/vehicle - to avoid people buying into unregulated Investment houses and funds which then "suddenly" cease trading taking everyones cash with them, other factors are used but its really to safe guard investors investments

    • Market data to trade on Friday: GBP/USD; Brent UK retail sales are the focal point for Friday’s session and as such, IGTV’s Jeremy Naylor looks at GBP/USD. Then there’s consumer confidence in the States which, if strong, could take the Russell 2000 back up to a record high. https://www.ig.com/uk/market-insight-articles/market-data-to-trade-on-friday--gbp-usd--brent-210916
