What qualifies an ETF to be held within an ISA trading account?

Recommended Posts

I'm gradually shifting my strategy towards a more macro and ETF based approach. I'm currently looking for exposure to the World Energy Sector. What exactly qualifies an ETF to be held within an ISA? The IG ETF screener seems to suggest that there are no ETFs available!

Do I need to look for a different provider?

Hi @underestimateme,

The HMRC decides which instruments are ISA eligible and which are not.

I'm sharing this link updated every morning with you, which has a full list of instruments on Share Dealing. There is a column "ISA eligible" which indicates if it's ISA eligible.

Amazing. Thank-you.

Out of interest, what are the criteria that the HMRC bases their decisions on?

That's above everyone's pay grade - funds/ETF's have to meet FCA approval to be allowed to hold within a tax efficient wrapper/vehicle - to avoid people buying into unregulated Investment houses and funds which then "suddenly" cease trading taking everyones cash with them, other factors are used but its really to safe guard investors investments

    • Great news, we are finding out more and more about these vaccines thanks to your participation in these trials 👍  For example;   'No children should be receiving the AZ vaccine as it is considered dangerous for under-40s and is no longer recommended for that age range. This is because it can cause vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), characterised by blood clots and low platelets, which is more prevalent in younger people; but 11,496 children have been injected with 21,468 doses. The impact on those children has been enormous, with 1 in 49 adverse events reported.' Serious adverse reaction risks behind those child jab invitations - The Conservative Woman
    • Hi @DeanM Thank you for the query,  The minimum stop distance is set by our dealing desk based on the risk inherent in the pair as well as the level of risk that we are willing to take on. So the minimum distance on guaranteed stops will vary according to the pair. With larger minimum distances on those that we deem to more risky.  All the best  Anda
