Why does IG not offer portfolio margining for professional investors/traders?  E.g. if one buys an option spread, IG seems to margin both legs individually without taking into account the aggegate risk offset that the second option provides.  I tried to ask this on chat with them and they just cut me off.

It's blindly obvious that the risk is the width of the spread, be it credit or debit spread - yet they margin short leg as if it was naked short - that brings me to the conclusion that IG simply don't want their clients to trade option spreads!
