Am I being an idiot to trade USD Gold instead of  a GBP instrument which is my base currency?

I just noticed significant FX charges, I don't get why

Hi @quluqulu

Thank you for reaching out.

The charge on your account was for holding the position through Wednesday 10pm UK time. The position will incur three days’ worth of funding to cover the settlement of trades over the weekend. This is because FX settles on a T+2 basis and Spot Gold overnight funding is calculated the same way as FX overnight funding.

All positions help through 10pm UK time will be charged overnight funding, whether USD denominated or GBP denominated. All the best, OfentseIG

why FX? is because there is a running negative balance even though it's well covered by the GBP balance?

Would I save this charge by closing the position and reopen it?

Hi @quluqulu

Spot Silver and Spot Gold are priced the same way as FX contracts. The spot market is an Over the Counter (OTC) market, which means that there is no central exchange in which currencies are traded.

Overnight funding is charged if you hold the position over 10pm UK time. The charge is not based on negative balance but for holding the position through 10pm, and charged as a Cost to Hold from one day to the next.

The payment can either be a charge or a credit as the Tom-Next rate changes daily. All the best, OfentseIG

why is this called a FX charge?

    • Yesterday, the market was divided, so I stayed out. Today, I predicted that there would be a relief rally on DAX (Germany) 40 in the morning. Therefore, I went long at the cash open and made 170 points. Did anyone else have a similar experience?
    • I've always found the idea of combining Web3 and real estate intriguing. Now, with Parcl Protocol from Parcl Labs, that curiosity is becoming tangible. This platform offers a new approach to investing in real estate prices from cities like Miami Beach and New York, using current price data. What makes Parcl unique is its emphasis on decentralized real estate trading. It enables the buying and selling of real estate assets anytime, anywhere, through a decentralized exchange. If you are holding PRCL their native token you can  participate in governing the Protocol. Plus, there are perks like Perpetual Network Incentives, offering extra benefits to users. The numbers tell an impressive story: Parcl Protocol is a notable DeFi app in the Solana ecosystem, with over $180M+ locked in. In a short span, it has facilitated trades of over 2.1M square feet of real estate exposure, equivalent to 1,400+ properties. The total traded volume? A significant $940M+.with tokens listing on exchanges like Bitget, the platform's reach and potential only continue to grow, Could Parcl be a game-changer in real estate? (Edited)
