Demo account reset

Hi All,

Is there a way to reset your demo account (without creating a new one, by using a different email address)?

I am busy testing a number of ProTrader strategies and use my demo account for this purpose. Before each run, I would like to reset my demo account history (trade history, capital, profit, etc.), to enable easy comparison. At the moment there is already quite a bit of history in my demo account.

At a minimum (if nothing else can be done), I would like to be able to set/reset the starting capital amount.

Is there a way to do this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is this something that can be added?

Regards

Stef

Hey ,

It isn't possible for a client to do a full reset on their demo account, however you can top up the funds as required through My Account - Deposit funds in the demo environent.

If you do want a specific account reset, please just contact our helpdesk and we can arrange for this to be carried out.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

The functionality to top up funds is not available for demo accounts, see below:

I was told by your helpdesk that this was not possible - resetting an account - and was told to create a new one!? So, if this is possible, maybe you should tell them.

PS: I still think that this functionality should be built into the platform.

Stef

Afternoon ,

I'm not sure why you don't have the option to top up your account - I'll get one of our tech team to investigate this. In the meantime, did you want me to get both of your acocunts reset back to the default funds?

Hi all - I just thought I would give an updated answer as I can see that this post has been viewed a number of times even though there haven't been any additional posts on the thread.

If you would like to reset your demo account then please simple make a request via email to helpdesk@ig.com. Please include the following pieces of information

  1. quick sentence requesting a reset of your demo
  2. name
  3. demo account number (you can find this out by hovering over the account name in My IG) or simply let us know which account you are looking to reset if you have multiple demos.

How to add additional funds to your demo

This can only be done via My IG. Simply load the page, and then select the 'deposit funds' option from the three bullet point drop down menu on the right had side. Please note once fake funds have been added, you won't be able to remove them.

    • The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a so-called Wells notice on Coinbase which saw the stock down heavily after-hours last night on Wall Street.    Jeremy Naylor | Analyst, London | Publication date: Thursday 23 March 2023  This is a document indicating that the SEC is preparing to act against some parts of the business. IGTV’s Jeremy Naylor explains that as the story develops, and more is heard, traders will be able to make a better judgment. Coinbase shares plunge The crypto exchange Coinbase fell more than 22% yesterday late in the session, all-sessions on the IG platform, it trades outside of hours, and it was this trading that represented a big drop in the share price. Share price chart Let's take a look at what happened because it explains the situation quite well. We have subsequently this morning seen a little bit of a rebound, but that 22% drop came after the company was issued a so-called Wells notice by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Wells notice is often one of the final steps before the SEC formally issues charges against the business, generally laying out the framework for what happens next. So we've got this drop that came through last night. We've subsequently seen a little bit of a rise on the session. CNBC said last night that based on discussions with the staff that potentially enforcement actions would relate to aspects of the company's spot market staking service, Coinbase Earn, Coinbase Prime and also the Coinbase Wallet business. Now the SEC is on high alert in the crypto industry in the wake of the failure of FTX. The recent gains we've seen in Coinbase have really all been about what's been happening with Bitcoin. Bitcoin has risen a whopping 47 and three quarter percent from the lows we had back on the 10th of March, all the way up to the highs we saw on Wednesday, yesterday, mid-session before the pullback. It's acting a little bit like a safe haven in the world of the markets. But Coinbase reflected this to some degree. But that knock yesterday was a really big pullback. But the investors are regrouping around the business and see this stock now up all-sessions, up 7% today. Where it'll open remains to be seen, but I suspect we could well see a little bit of a drop at the start later on today on Wall Street.
