I have some resource CFD shorts running with stops and wondering what to do over the JSE quarterly close out. What is the actual date and time of the close out ? Are the Stops I have active during the close out period ? Is there a lot of volatility over the close out period which I believe is less than an hour ?

Apologies for my ignorance , I’ve just had a chat with one of my colleagues from our South African office who’s filled me in on the Quarterly Close Out and how it works!

Similar to the auction at the start or the end of the trading day, at 12:00pm on the third Thursday of each quarter (i.e. earlier Today), all JSE stocks will trip into an auction in order to determine the close out price. Like an auction at the beginning or end of the day volume will increase during the 15 minute process and prices may seem skewed however your stop won’t be filled basis any prices during this time.

The result of these auctions, otherwise known as the ‘uncrossing’ price, then feeds into the SA40 calculation to give the final settlement for the quarterly futures.

For more information you can see the JSE’s website here: https://www.jse.co.za/trade/derivative-market/equity-derivatives

    • While it is important to highlight that the strategy that works for trader A might not necessarily work for trader B, I think the strategy you mentioned is effective to a large extent. Actually it is the main product that attracted me to the exchange being the largest Copy trading exchange in the industry. A highly recommendable tool that benefits both newbies and elite traders imo.
    • Talking about the JTO token, I recently secured an umpteen amount on Bitget exchange. I truly believe it's a game-changer for the Jito Network's future. The JTO tokens not only represent a stake in the network but also serve as a key driver for its ecosystem. With the network's focus on decentralized finance (DeFi) and innovative blockchain solutions, holding JTO tokens gives me a sense of participation in the growth and success of Jito Network. I see the potential for these tokens to play a pivotal role in governance, incentivizing users to actively contribute to the network's development, and fostering a vibrant and engaged community. As Jito Network continues to evolve and expand its services, I anticipate that my investment in JTO tokens will become increasingly valuable, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the platform.
    • Aside from DCA, I also utilize the Bitget copy trading platform. I've found copy trading to be a highly advantageous strategy, especially for newcomers in the crypto space. The platform allows me to automatically replicate the trades of experienced and successful traders, leveraging their expertise to inform my own decisions. This not only reduces the learning curve for beginners but also provides a valuable opportunity to observe and understand market dynamics through the actions of seasoned professionals.
