Unlongable? You mean only HODL, absolutely no trading allowed.

Recommended Posts

Can't long, only short and that's 90% of the time.

I may as well buy the real thing and HODL because that's all this broker can do right now.

Can't swing trade because you never know when you can long again

Can't do anything intra-day because you never know when you can long

IG = HODL only.

Also can't short when very volatile because I don't know.

Can we get like a net position limit per customer? James, you probably have 60% + of your bitcoin positions being long term HODLers who don't care about overnight interest rates. That isn't trading, they can head to local bitcoins with an envelope of cash under the table.

i entirely agree. the inability to buy back has become an inhibition against selling when it would otherwise be the right thing to do. short term trading is now impossible on IG all of whose crypto markets have been unlongable today. having actually sold ETH at the top of the market ( a rare success) I have had to sit and watch it crawl back up with no chance of going long and no idea when a buy will be permitted. i think it is time to look elsewhere.

I absolutely sympathize. I sold my bitcoins at what I thought was a daily high and was right. Later I realised I was actually wrong because now I couldn't buy back and have missed on later gains.

Unfortunately their competition is unacceptable too. IG is still better than *****oro and premium500

There was opportunity today to buy ETH as price was dropping around lunchtime.

I was waiting for that moment for people to sell off at $1200- had been discussing in a different thread. As price dropped it allows long biased traders to add to their positions. There will be plenty of opportunities to go long and short yet but yes you do need to keep checking the market info tab for when you can get in.

At 5:32 am just now Ether was not longable. This is when potentially the next leg of the move may have commenced. This must be frustrating.

As a trend follower, I like to add to my position and pyramid upwards as the price increases. IG does not allow this on crypto trading.

    • Crude palm oil prices could hit $700/mt FOB Belawan in 2020: Golden-Agri https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/market-insights/latest-news/agriculture/111419-crude-palm-oil-prices-could-hit-700-mt-fob-belawan-in-2020-golden-agri
    • Well Bitcoin broke $8k and is currently around the $7.5k price area. It is not looking good at all.  It seems my $6.3k - $6.6k price area which I think could be the bottom or this specific downward move looks more likely now. I mentioned this price area on Monday (a few posts above) and now I think unless there is some serious buying or spectacular news followed by some serious pumping and short covering then Bitcoin is heading towards this price zone.
    • There are many different ways to trade and applying or adopting trend following principles is merely just one such way. Trading more frequently does not guarantee any more success but it can increase the chances of making more losses if you do not have a robust trading system that is based on a sound trading plan. Trend following does not have to involve regular or frequent trading. That is the beauty of it. You can merely wait until you identify a trend which you wish to trade. Of course they will not all be successful as the trend could reverse sharply against you, it could be a false trend (looks like a trend but not) or simply the volatility could stop you out.  Day trading really is for full time traders in my personal opinion unless you have an expensive automated system which has been tested rigorously or you are an exceptional trader which can consistently make profits on most days without gambling, hoping or relying on luck.  Trend following suits me based on the time I have available to trade. I accept it is not for everyone but I believe all trading includes an element of trend following. Just how much depends on your trading style and methodologies adopted.
