How do I see the profit/loss of a sale

Guest mariopa

Question

Guest mariopa

I'm struggling to figure out something that should be very simple. I've sold some US shares for a profit on my Share Dealing account about a week ago, which have already settled.

I was expecting a sort of profit column somewhere in the UI that would tell me exactly what my profit is. There seems to be none.

Also, it seems not even possible to calculate that info from the other columns exposed in the Transaction/Past Activity/TradeHistory view.

Can anyone explain how to figure out the profit in the UI?

Hey - you will have been automatically emailed a snapshot of your statements on the date of purchase / sale. You can also see the historical records of all your accounts in 'My IG' - your online account settings and notification section.

  1. live account
  2. select which account you want to look at
  3. click on statements
  4. open current statement

Alternatively you can check out the history section (just above point 3 - statements)

Hi,

my question was specifically regarding the UI. I don't see why I need to wait days before the pdf statement is available before I can get the profit information.

As I mentioned already, I've looked in the UI in history under all the three sections Transaction/Past Activity/TradeHistory. There is no way to figure out the profit. I find this very frustrating.

I've called many times IG support, and all the times the final conclusion was you have to wait for the pdf statement.

Your answer seems to prove that there's no way to see that from the UI then. Very disappointing

Hi - please note that when you have the notifications section open (on the right hand side) when you close a trade you'll get a snapshot on the P&L of that trade. You have near continuous / infinite scroll (i.e. can go back a fair number of days) and I would have thought this is what you're looking for? See my example below with the DAX trade.

You can also see trade alerts and indicator alerts in this section. Toggle is the three horizontal lines in the top right hand corner.

You can also see your profit/loss just before you click 'close'...

...and then the confirm which will be visible once you have closed each position via the positions window. This will remain on screen until you move your cursor away from that particular window.

Hopefully this fully answers your question and clarifies functions on the dealing platform.

Hi- my UI looks different than yours. I can't find any notifications section:

but event if there was, having to go through all the notifications to find out the profits seems very 'uncomfortable'.

I think IG should update it's UI and make this info simpler to access.

Ahhh @mariopa apologies-  I have just noticed that you are using the share dealing account which currently doesn't have the new web trading platform update. As you said we are looking at rolling out a new platform relatively soon for share dealing. Whilst ESMA requirements and new product offerings have had some knock on effects to roll out priority, please rest assured that we're still working on this as we speak.

Hi @JamesIG any ETA for the new UI available to share dealing?
