I have a feeling that today will be particularly important, there is a wee doji forming!    🙈😁

We may go back up above 602 and start trading in the upper range again.  :(

Weekly timeframe definitely suggests that we've seen a peak top for now ... fingers crossed!

Ouch!  Looks like it might actually be a better idea to go long at this point.   Let's see what happens tomorrow, and if it breaks 635.   😱

Strongly bullish weekly signal.  I'm now looking to get out and maybe consider going long if it breaks the high.

Lessons learned

* Wait for stronger signals on the weekly and monthly charts!!!

* Remember to check company announcements - d'oh!  I did not realize they had a trading release this week.

@dmedin

Take a look at the daily chart, I would suggest holding off on going long until you have a clear breakout but of-course it's your choice. You should have either closed out or opened a hedge on your trade after you saw strong support at £576 and the averages turning up but if you didn't you will have to be careful you don't start compounding you errors, it's very easy to do that. Also remember if the FTSE goes down it is unlikely that JD will go up so keep an eye on the FTSE. This chart doesn't support a short position but it doesn't support a long position either. At this point it may be worth considering a stop loss just above £636 with a target of £520. That would be called selling resistance and targeting support, it may not work out but it is a professional and valid strategy. The choice is yours, I only say this because I read a post of your that said two heads are better than one. Good Luck. 👿

Getting some nice pullback in the share price this morning.  Long may it continue!  😆

From a weekly perspective it looks okay.  I moved my limit up as I doubt it will pull back all the way to 521 in the imminent future.

@dmedin

Tomorrow may be a better day to see how things are going, if it drops below £6.00 it could keep on going down but above £6.15 and I would be getting worried if I was short. 👿

@dmedin

Inter-day chart not looking good on JD, it has bounced off £6.00 and the FTSE looks like it wants to recover. 👿

Hanging on for dear life 🙈

@dmedin

I know you don't like short term charts but why not try the H4 charts they are 6 times more informative than Daily charts. 👿

I closed out with a loss on this one.  Never mind!  Onwards and upwards!  I will keep looking at it and maybe go long on the hourly or four hourly time frames :D

hi @dmedin. I have been reading all your posts with interest. I am not an experienced trader by any means. I spend most of my time demo-ing but now and again I go live for small gains. Should I ever trade individual shares then I tend to stick with weekly monitoring and daily chart for entries because that works for me. I have normal stochastic and normal rsi settings with a horizontal line across the 50mark on each. I use the stochastic to look for buy and sell signals at either cross over on the top or the bottom. I then look at the RSI to see if there is any divergence in the movement. I have attached my chart and although the RSI is showing divergence in the very short term, the stochastic is yet to cross down. The daily timeframe may help with trading earlier rather than waiting until the close on a Friday to see if there is a cross.

Looking at the daily chart, I would have shorted on 5th July as there was small divergence in the RSI from the previous day and the stoch crossed. However, it would only have lasted a small gain because the RSI levelled off with no divergence within a day. Therefore only a small gain from roughly 621 to 603 give or take a spread.

JD Sports is due for a pullback at some point, there's no doubt about it.  :D

Rising wedge or getting ready for a big breakout to the upside?

A hanging man has appeared this week.  This stock is long overdue for a correction before potentially moving onwards and upwards!

Well it failed to hold above 650 and now seems headed for just under 580!  High time Veronica, high time!

It held above 577 and now it looks like it will have another go at 655, let's see if it can break it and stay above and then we will think about going long and holding... (might even buy real shares lol!)

@dmedinLooking at the daily, I note three days of downward movement followed by the last three days of upward which has only just about covered the movement of the last day down. Therefore, I think the next move is down. Not sure by how much though.

Seems to be range-bound right now.  Frustrating; will need a decisive break along with increased volume in order to know which way to go on this.

Haha, JD Sports is the exact inverse of Sports Direct in terms of share price.  JD Sports is probably one to be looking at going long on, but at a better price.

    • Where can I find a list of the US ETFs which are tradable with IG? I can't receive market data for those via the API (same as for stocks), correct?
    • US Dollar - The World's Reserve Currency: The US Dollar as the world's reserve currency is an issue which causes mix reactions and thoughts. When the US Dollar  became the reserve currency there was no Euro or Chinese Renminbi. Since their introduction it has eaten into the US Dollar's world dominance and as a result has led to it declining from the 70%-80% range to the 60% range. If one remembers, the UK Pound Sterling, once was the world's reserve currency but it now only accounts for around 4% at the moment. So things can change and it is not a given that the US Dollar will remain the world's reserve currency forever. It will have to earn that right which it may well do.  The US Dollar’s share of global central bank reserves hit a 5-year low, according to the International Monetary Fund. Now is this the beginning of a significant change here? Is the US, the world superpower it once was? There is no doubt it is the mightiest country in the world at this moment in time in terms of economics but imagine if the US Dollar lost its reserve currency status. This would have a large impact on the economics within the US.  I do not envisage the US losing its status anytime soon but if things continue to get worse and other countries find ways to conduct international transactions / transfers / payments without the need to hold US Dollars, and an alternative arises then who knows.
    • Going back to my FTSE analysis I see things as follows: 2 scenarios present themselves, other than fresh ATHs that is: 1) the move down to the turn on Thursday was a wave 1 (blue) off a larger scale wave 2 (purple) that should retrace, maybe in a complex fashion with a lot of whip saw price action maybe not, let's see; 2) the recent rally and drop to a new low was a 1-2 (red), which indicates a much stronger leg down is immanent. The #2 scenario would only be valid if price holds below the previous high (circa 7300).  I favour the #1 scenario. There was PMD on the 4H chart at wave 1 (blue), which suggests this is a turning point.  Also the 4H chart shows a 1-5 wave down to the 1 blue, which would be motive and suggests a trend change to the bearish side. There was strong NMD at wave 2 (Purple) which is consistent with a large scale retrace move. Just as with the US large caps, after the stop and turn up there was a sharp retrace drop to the Fib 76/78% zone before the current rally.  As the FTSE was in out of hours at the end of the week this market has not rallied as hard as the US markets.  Also we may yet see fresh ATHs on US large caps while the FTSE100 only puts in a counter trend rally. If we do see fresh ATHs on US large caps and only a retrace on FTSE and probably Dax and Nikkei as well then comparing these markets will be instructive for calling that top on US large caps.  We may, alternatively, see only a retrace on US large caps too if the top of the market in already in. Conclusion: we can anticipate a bullish period on all major indices BUT should guard against a quick reversal on FTSE 100 that would set up scenario #2.  Either way this market looks to have topped out so the coming months though to the Autumn will be critical to deciding things on all indices, and likely quite a few other markets. I am Long the FTSE 100, coincident with my Dow Longs and will swing this up for now but my bearish bias for the long term will keep we watchful for a break down of this rally and I will not be pyramiding this one, far too risky until things are resolved.
