Statement reading

Good day folks,

Am a student and was asked to create a demo account and place orders on 5 different securities and after 30 days to print and interpret the statement. NOW assist me with the following column heading what they mean professionally.

Opening level

Current level

Notional value

Deposit required

Running profit/loss

%price change.


Your help will highly appreciated.

Hi Martino. 

I can certainly help with some. 

Opening level - The price at which your trade was opened at.

Current level - The price at the current time as given by the market. 

The price change of the instrument, usually on a daily basis but you can get it over longer terms. i.e the stock has risen 4% today from it's close price yesterday. 

Running profit/loss - The difference you have from opening to now. If it's gone up and you are long profit, If it's gone down and you are short profit. 

Deposit required - Regulations dictate the margin required now in the European Union. Please see here.

    • Is that a trick question..? I'm trying to have a broad picture.  And to consider (and develop an understanding of) as many influences on prices as I can.
    • And just so you can 'get where I'm coming from' for the last 6 months here is a data set from Asia I posted way back in February (Daily Dashboard thread). Looks pretty similar doesn't it and certainly a million miles from Ferguson's model predicting hundreds of thousands of deaths.
