Thank you for your post. I have a basic idea of the products as I did cfa level 1 and acca. I completed all the tests for beginners on this platform yesterday and did well at them. I have invested in shares before and made money from it.

I dont have a trading plan and I havent decided on the assets that I ll like to trade in.

I ll look at your trend regarding trading plan  thank you.

Do you have any other advice for me? Thank you.

Hi, the best all round and complete educational resource is probably Babypips. It focuses on FX but the tutorials are applicable to all markets

why do you say that? just because the mayor of NYC declared a state of emergency, called in the National Guard and has penitentiary prisoners standing by to dig 50,000 emergency mass graves because there's been a death, what's there to cause fear?

the Chinese never needed this so it's nonsense that the US will and is deliberate scaremongering.

My gut feeling is that the media is feeding a frenzy of fear and panic ... I see very few intelligent people panicking ...

    Hey thanks for that.

So its halted for the day?? So the us500 resumes on monday trading session? Also Is there anyway to close this position?

no just 15 minutes into US session open today (1:30pm UK time) but it's going to open with a hefty gap up as things stand.

Reminder about #limitup, this is a CME SEC ruling. when the market hits a certain level : 5% in OOH, further buying is halted, you can still add/remove/edit any stops, limits or working orders on all positions so long as they comply with the current minimum distances.

Haha oh dear ... bad news for impatient and compulsive people ... 🙄

the last few days on twitter IG was warning new traders wanting to join in the fun about risk man. I got the impression that with the 100 point 1 min candles flying around, constant slippage and routine limit up/downs that new traders where having their entire accounts wiped out on a routine basis.

Could be doing with some stimulus myself ...

I take it this 'stimulus' is going to be tax cuts for the rich and bailouts for the darlings of Wall Street...

more turning Japanese, next Fed mtg is next Wednesday.

Markets less flamboyant this morning, looking more like the old fashion steady grind.

I'm reading through the docs on creating an API key, but when it says to find the spot to generate a key in the account settings, I don't know where I'm supposed to find it. In the account settings I'm looking at there is no API key option.

I'm a US customer if that matters.

Hi, it may be something to do with account type or being a US customer, should be in your 'My IG' Account settings as per pic below, also check the IG Labs page (link below) but you may also need to check with the IG helpdesk.

  10. The biggest down day yesterday as the fear gauge hit maximum but could be an exhaustion bar as US increases stimulus. Lagarde turns out a massive let down (it's all really not her problem). And it turns out  northern Italy has a massive Chinese population working in the leather goods industry (who knew), who regularly back and forth to China.

Taking positions in opposite directions on the same market

    Hi guys

I read a few weeks ago that we can now do this. I just tried to do this on one of my positions and it closed out my long contract.

Can you let me know what the situation is

    Cheers

    rob

yes, the platform closed the other trade because it's set to 'net off', if you change the setting to 'force open' on the deal/order ticket (hedging mode) it will allow both trades to run simultaneously.

I've reported problems since I joined on the 10th March 2019!  My 12 month anniversary was this week and not even a card from you......Many people have reported problems since it went live.....

yes you spent a year complaining about specific problems that IG reported only you were experiencing and were not backed up by anyone else on the forum, whenever multiple reports did arrive on the forum for different problems you always jumped in with 'me too' as if they backed up your original concerns which they didn't.

have no idea why you are even still using it tbh.

They quite rightly receive a lot of scrutiny and public attention when they fail, without which they wouldn't have any incentive to improve their processes and upgrade their technology.  Perhaps brokers need to be subjected to the same standards as banks.

they are, who says they don't and shouldn't but the automatic suggestion that the the bank must be involved in some kind of market manipulation is not the same thing.
