  1. Yes, an important breakout for gold. Monthly chart;
  2. Mostly blue except USD after FOMC, the biggest laugh came when Powell said he wasn't expecting a rate cut til 2020, the expectancy of a cut in July immediately jumped from 80% to 87% and was 100% within the hour. Chart of the day is China 300 up 3%.
  3. @nit2wynit, you are missing the point on spreads and what the spread is actually telling you. The spread is low when the asset has good volatility and good liquidity, spreads are high when the asset has poor volatility and poor liquidity therefore don't buy an asset when the spread is high. You can often easily buy a stock when there is poor volatility and poor liquidity but when you need to sell it is when the trouble starts. In @ha05230 perfectly reasonable example what say the spread was 1 and not 10.
  4. No surprises in the data, word changes in the mon pol statement reflect concern over low inflation and point to the expected rate cut next month. The presser starts in 5 minutes.
  5. not to worry @nit2wynit you just need to go back over the basic mechanics of the thing.
  6. especially when you're trying to place trades quickly, a small checklist on a post-it note on the side of the screen might help.
  7. Can't stand the torture any longer , must be some kind of trick question. So the cost of the trade is the spread, 3 points. You have entered at £5 ppp so the price to enter the trade is 3 x 5 = £15. That is taken at the entry so the trade immediately goes £15 into the red.
  8. US Oil poised to break up through 55. H4 chart.
  9. Trend consolidation phases often lead people to call a reversal far too early (along with 'I think' bias). These occur on every time frame and correct identification is of prime importance. Don't say 'I think', instead say 'If > then ...'
  10. Hi, you will need a platform and an account to transact business with the liquidity providers but you can trade directly with them using Direct Market Access (DMA). IG do provide such a service but to trade forex on it you need to qualify as a professional trader and the criteria is set pretty high. See more info here; https://www.ig.com/uk/l2-trading-platform
  11. Is it too early to start a thread on the US election in 2020? As political polls have lost all credibility here are the current betting odds; http://electionbettingodds.com
  12. I don't know about the emails, I just had a look at the settings page and it looked as though emailing is either off or on for all so not sure why one is and one isn't, maybe @JamesIG will know.
  13. Yes, and then they went real directional real quick. Now bull flags and stretched pivot levels and the FOMC later today will likely overshadow and subdue action before hand. May look for support confirmation during the day, can't really see them striking out for R1 before FOMC though Dax can be boisterous and may have a go.
  14. Hi, he is an ex bank trader but has now joined a group which has set up some kind of trader teaching academy which he plugs throughout the video. He uses examples of bad practice of poorly regulated brokers and pretends it applies to them all but that simply isn't the case. It's true that IG used to offer preferential rates to large clients (they all did) but the regulators stepped in and banned it in UK and Europe. It's true that sometimes the helpdesk are not always so helpful though you could have asked here on the community 🙂, I've helped others with mt4 on mac before. IG has 10s of thousands of clients for a reason, small companies may be seem more keen to get you up and going quickly but that's probably because half of them are on the verge of going bust 😉
  15. Big break upward yesterday on news ECB worried about low inflation, slowing econ and talking up rate cuts and then news of extended meeting confirmed at the G20 between US and China. FOMC data today at 7pm with presser to follow at 7:30pm. Dow, Dax and Ftse all eyeing up big targets dead ahead. Daily charts;
  16. Oil and indices up, bonds down. Euro down, USD up, gold steady. Chart of the day Nvidia up 6%. FOMC day.
  17. Hi, see this thread for 3 different styles of currency strength indicators. Also consider 'open interest' tables which indicate the number of open positions held and the similar COT data which indicates the number of futures contracts held by large speculators for an asset.
  18. Mate that video is old, I seen it not long after it first came out in early 2018 and guess what, the guy is setting you up to sell you his own product, what a surprise! Yeah, all brokers are bad ho-hum. But the thing is small retail would never even get a shot at trading without them. But oh, they give the big boys a more personalised service, shock! Most small account traders are going to blow up their account themselves within 3 months anyway. Basic research would have lead you to discover mt4 was never written for mac though metatrader did write a get round, not perfect but as good as it gets, mt4 is 3rd party and not down to IG. Most of the 10s of thousands of IG clients aren't big fish though the few big fish probably put though most of the trading volume, that's just the way it is.
  19. Hi @WhiteDmp, not able to remove it I'm afraid, it's on the broker feed and can't be changed same as time zones can't be changed. The only way around it is to look at a third party chart like Prorealtime or Tradingview.com. IG have the Sunday open as it allows early trades to be placed which they see as a key feature for clients.
  20. It's a new feature that hasn't been completely rolled out on the demo platform, it's there for indices and fx but not on stocks just yet.
  21. The minimum stop level changes for the same reason as the spread, sudden increase in volatility. Don't forget you are looking at the spread when you hit the buy or sell tab though it would be more clear if the ticket format was the same as on mt4 for example where the spread is in a separate box. This was recently highlighted in another thread and was passed on to the platform developers.
  22. The spreads have always been variable and depend on current market volatility and liquidity which are reflected in the prices available to IG. That's the price of having a continuous market to trade as opposed to getting 'stuck' with an asset.
  23. Don't need to see it mate, you've set it in the same place as everyone else 🙂.
  24. R3 and R4 levels for Dax and Dow here 🙂
  25. Indices, USD and Bonds up, Euro and Oil down, Cryptos down, Gold up. @JamesIG, there appears to be a false spike turned up on the Facebook live daily chart (in pic), not there on the lower time frames.
