you'll remember me saying that the spread isn't showing on the Demo.  It's clearly thrown me off.

especially when you're trying to place trades quickly, a small checklist on a post-it note on the side of the screen might help.

    Explain this to me please.

Image shows 5ppp, Stop and Limit at 1pt or £5.  Why has it cost me £15 to place the trade?  The price between the Buy and sell is 3pts?  The charts is showing the Mid price.

Can't stand the torture any longer :/, must be some kind of trick question.

So the cost of the trade is the spread, 3 points. You have entered at £5 ppp so the price to enter the trade is 3 x 5 = £15. That is taken at the entry so the trade immediately goes £15 into the red.

    Greetings,

Just asking if I can set up my own FOREX trading from home with out going through a broker.

Plan is to set up short trades with limit entry orders set to protect major losses and collect profit.

I'm not sure if this is possible to do myself.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    cheers

    Gerry

    Hi, you will need a platform and an account to transact business with the liquidity providers but you can trade directly with them using Direct Market Access (DMA). IG do provide such a service but to trade forex on it you need to qualify as a professional trader and the criteria is set pretty high. See more info here;

Thanks a lot Casey for offering help all I follow here is you and elle because it only make sense to me.But somehow when ever elle write something i get update email which really helps but in your case i follow you as well but still don't get updates or if i do get opportunity mostly gone by than don't know how to activate that.

I don't know about the emails, I just had a look at the settings page and it looked as though emailing is either off or on for all so not sure why one is and one isn't, maybe @JamesIG will know.

  5. Yes, and then they went real directional real quick. Now bull flags and stretched pivot levels and the FOMC later today will likely overshadow and subdue action before hand. May look for support confirmation during the day, can't really see them striking out for R1 before FOMC though Dax can be boisterous and may have a go.

Yes I know and he mentioned that as well but he is doing the same but the  difference is he not a broker he just create a big hedge fund where he get best prices from broker as a team obviously he will be a big account so he will get all the perks even down to zero spread sometimes but I am not against any broker its just the understanding of the system. As I mentioned even ig offer different rates to big fishes a capitalist system rich will have more opportunities than poor hence rich will get more richer every day and poor more poorer . It was just the customer service thing trust me I just open a demo account with very small company and they straight away called me and guess what they literally stay with me over the phone an hour to install MT4 on mac 😀

I played the same game what they play but inverse hence here I am ready with mt4 platform on mac. But see the big brokers they don't much of bother about small clients.

Hi, he is an ex bank trader but has now joined a group which has set up some kind of trader teaching academy which he plugs throughout the video. He uses examples of bad practice of poorly regulated brokers and pretends it applies to them all but that simply isn't the case. It's true that IG used to offer preferential rates to large clients (they all did) but the regulators stepped in and banned it in UK and Europe.

It's true that sometimes the helpdesk are not always so helpful though you could have asked here on the community 🙂, I've helped others with mt4 on mac before.

IG has 10s of thousands of clients for a reason, small companies may be seem more keen to get you up and going quickly but that's probably because half of them are on the verge of going bust 😉

  7. Big break upward yesterday on news ECB worried about low inflation, slowing econ and talking up rate cuts and then news of extended meeting confirmed at the G20 between US and China.

FOMC data today at 7pm with presser to follow at 7:30pm.

Dow, Dax and Ftse all eyeing up big targets dead ahead.

    hi there

which is the best and most economic currency strength meter available ?

Hi, see this thread for 3 different styles of currency strength indicators. Also consider 'open interest' tables which indicate the number of open positions held and the similar COT data which indicates the number of futures contracts held by large speculators for an asset.

    Related video with brokers

Mate that video is old, I seen it not long after it first came out in early 2018 and guess what, the guy is setting you up to sell you his own product, what a surprise!

Yeah, all brokers are bad ho-hum. But the thing is small retail would never even get a shot at trading without them. But oh, they give the big boys a more personalised service, shock! Most small account traders are going to blow up their account themselves within 3 months anyway.

Basic research would have lead you to discover mt4 was never written for mac though metatrader did write a get round, not perfect but as good as it gets, mt4 is 3rd party and not down to IG.

Most of the 10s of thousands of IG clients aren't big fish though the few big fish probably put though most of the trading volume, that's just the way it is.

    Dear all,

Please could you tell me how do I remove the sunday candle in MT4 chart. Other brokers don't have this, just IG. It is very inconvenient for my strategy.

    Thank you in advance!

Hi @WhiteDmp,  not able to remove it I'm afraid, it's on the broker feed and can't be changed same as time zones can't be changed. The only way around it is to look at a third party chart like Prorealtime or Tradingview.com.

IG have the Sunday open as it allows early trades to be placed which they see as a key feature for clients.

But the Spread info is definitely missing from my trades over the last week.  I'll see if I have any evidence of screen shots to prove it, in the meantime this is from right now.

It's a new feature that hasn't been completely rolled out on the demo platform, it's there for indices and fx but not on stocks just yet.

While you're here @JamesIG can you tell me why some of the Auto Stop Loses are so massive?

The minimum stop level changes for the same reason as the spread, sudden increase in volatility. Don't forget you are looking at the spread when you hit the buy or sell tab though it would be more clear if the ticket format was the same as on mt4 for example where the spread is in a separate box. This was recently highlighted in another thread and was passed on to the platform developers.

Right folks, probably close to my Posting Limit for today.

    Her'es an update I wasn't aware of.

The Spread can change by the Tick at anytime without notice.

Trading the Instrument above.  I'm pretty certain I started with a 5pt spread.  then it went to £15, then to £25.  I didn't even notice till it went to £25 and got stopped out twice..........

What a **** joke and a con this platform is.  How can you justify going from £5 to £25 without notice??

    Jeeeeez.  Still learning.

The spreads have always been variable and depend on current market volatility and liquidity which are reflected in the prices available to IG. That's the price of  having a continuous market to trade as opposed to getting 'stuck' with an asset.

Thanks. So in that example I would set the stop distance to 20,000 to be a $2 distance, or at $192.1400, correct?

@Mark8787,  yes but no 🙂, you don't use the last 2 zeros, not sure which platform you are on but if it's the spread bet and the price is 194.1400 and you want a price stop 2.0000 away at 192.1400 then you need to put 200 points in the stop loss box,  see pic below.
