IG and MT4 connection problems on Mac

Hello, I am trying to open MT4 demo account on Mac in order to work with EA and do backtesting for indices. I know Mac and MT4 are not the good match, but want to try anyway. I was able to download MT4, but the process of logging in is nothing like the instructions. I cannot find IG as a provider and therefore cannot find any indices, only Forex. Do you have any advice?
