  1. The next correction is going to be catastrophic - and based entirely on what these central bankers have already done to our market. Quick wins pushed by politicians from the '07/8 crash which have resulted in a **** ton of illiquid sovereign bonds (think Woodford on a global scale) and all the monetary policies being used to prop up an economy.

    we gonna get **** up

  2. didn't think this required its own thread, but thought it was interesting. Saw it on reddit today. "In the 1640's the Dutch inhabitants of New Amsterdam built a 12' wall to keep the bad hombres out. In 1664 the British ignored the wall and took New Amsterdam by sea. It's now called New York. They took down the wall and built a street. It's called Wall Street"

also, If you visit the street there is still a piece of the original wall in the ground.

and then some non-finance related dutch/NYC facts :

    • Coney Island = Conyne Eyland, meaning rabbit island (Konijn Eiland in modern Dutch).
    • Staten Island = named in honor of the Staten-Generaal, a government body.
    • Nassau = Name of the royal Dutch house (think "Windsor").
    • Brooklyn = Breukelen in province Utrecht.
    • Harlem = Haarlem in Noord-Holland.
    • Rhode Island = Roode Eylandt (red island in Dutch).
    • Yankees = the common first names of Dutch men, "Jan" and "Kees" slurred together. Yell that at any Dutchman and you were likely to guess his name.

...thus concludes our history lesson for the day :D

  3. "Palladium is more valuable than gold for the first time since 2002, with prices soaring by around 50 percent in less than four months to record levels" - it looks like this is on the back of  emissions-reducing catalysts for vehicles. Is this trend likely to continue or will supply catch up to demand?

I think everyone knows by this time that all tech companies based out of California are primarily leftist.

You'll see leftist tendencies on Reuters & Bloomberg, but it is way more subtle and requires a trained eye.
Reuters " special investigations " are filled with skewed leftism reports

Problem is if you point this out your automatically assumed to be right-wing. It's as if everyone has forgotten that there are in fact other virtues at play than a political continuum.

very interesting point and entirely agree.

  5. google algo simply works on what people are searching for, and surfaces based on a number of user input factors to help in SERPs. It's basically a consensus mechanism, and shows that people on the whole have applied the term '****' to trump many many many times across a number of different forums, blogs and pages.

whilst it doesn't confirm the factual validity of a statement, it does give a very good indication of what people thing.

Also I get different results for your term, which I think goes further to support the point that it's not fact, but what people in my area are searching for.

Google is an amazing surfacing tool and everyone believe in them (I don't think I've needed to go down more than 3 results from the top in the last 3 years, and haven't been off page 1 in maybe 8+ years) until they want to be controversial.
