What does Open Position mean

hi, I'm new to IG website and to investing/trading, appreciate if someone could please help me here. I placed an order to buy certain shares with - 'buy' order at a quote price. Now I see in my Dealing Platform window - Open Position with the amount of shares and prices, but does not say whether the shares were bought or not, and what happen if order does not get executed? Many thanks
