I'm a permanent resident here in Australia, but I'm originally from the U.S. and still hold a citizenship there. I've recently started an IG account to get into some trading, but am unable to buy any U.S. stocks as a W-8BEN is required. The only issue is that this document is useless to a U.S. citizen, and a W-9 form was recommended instead. Filled out the form and after 3 weeks and a frustrating amount of follow up calls and emails, my form was approved. Despite all this...I still can't buy U.S. stocks. Is IG just incapable of brokering stocks to U.S. citizens? I assume this isn't the case as I've explained my situation multiple times to different IG representatives and I would think someone would inform me that I've been wasting my time. Hopefully someone can fill me in.
