Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hello all,

As we roll out the latest iteration of the new web trading platform we wish to know about your experiences and suggestions for future development. To help this process we’d like you to consider the following in your feedback.

  • What are your initial impressions of the platform? We want to know the good and not so good.
  • How intuitive have you found it? In particular consider placing a trade, using charts or finding a new market
  • What three things would you suggest are the most important to focus on to further develop the platform?

Feel free to respond by posting below. We'll be on hand to answer any other questions you may have.

New web trading platform eh? I have not seen the URL published.

Investor mainly. But take a technical position at least once a month.

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi Raoul,

The new platform is great - it feels really slick and keeps everything tidy and uncluttered. And it's so much quicker (and simpler) to load charts, tickets etc. than the earlier platform.

A quick question though: almost at random it will drop me back to the 'login' screen. It doesn't matter if I have left it alone or have been working on something. To get back in, I need to click 'Open new platform' again from the My IG dashboard (it hasn't completely logged me out of my account, just dropped me back to the external 'flashing prices' login page).

Not a big problem, as it loads again quickly, but can delay things slightly if you're about to open/close a trade.

It'll also be great when we can automatically sign into the new platform (i.e. selecting it as an option within the My IG 'Platform preference').

Thanks to all the team.

Hi @greendragon

Thanks for bringing that issue to our attention. It's something we've just been made aware is occurring and are working on right now to fix.

I'm happy to hear your other positive feedback!

Regards,

Raoul

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

I like the new platform but a few initial thoughts:

1. The twitter feed is a great idea but would be better if you could customise it with your own choice of twitter feeds

2.  It would be nice if the economic calendar could be viewed in the workspace just like the news does (i.e. it slides out). At the moment it opens up a new browser window

3. It would be nice to have the option of pinning the news window to my workspace -  haven't found a way of doing this yet.

Number 1 would be my top wish.

Keep up the good work

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Haven't been looking at the new platform recently as there are too many problems with it for me at present but just took a look at the twitter feed recently mentioned by @Starks - it looks good but I can't see how to close it.  Surely it should be like the other tabs that can be moved and closed?

Cheers.

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Very impressed with new platform as is much quicker and has a much smoother overall appearance. However, would be great if you could address the following:

1: Can we have an option to turn off the price line which spreads across the whole chart and is very off putting

2: Countdown timer to the next bar

3: Make the pivot points static as when you switch between charts or time frames they just scrunch up the whole chart

Thanks in advance

Hi @ianc134

You can actually close the Twitter/notification feed by clicking the bell icon. Right now this setting won't be saved when you restart the platform, but will soon.

Hi,

I finally got the link to the new platform and I have to say as a UI/UX designer you've exceeded. It's finally fast and easy to navigate and organise.

Well done ladies and gents.

thanks

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi @mbs

Just wanted to update you on your three points of feedback.

1. In the coming weeks we will tone down the colour/boldness of the dynamic price line so that it blends better with the chart. This is a quick adjustment while we work on adding an option to disable it (I don't have a release date for this yet but will share when it's available)

2. We are currently considering the bar countdown, but don't yet have any update on when this might be added

3. In the coming weeks we are improving the scaling of indicators such as Pivot Points, so that they don't scrunch up the chart.

Thanks again for your feedback, hope the above clarifies your points!

Hi @mbs

We've pushed out an update to fix scaling on pivot points, which will address point 3 for you.

We're keen to find out if this has improved things for you, so let us know!

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi @unclemick

We're making some improvements to how zoom functions, which includes zoom and 'reset to current candle' buttons. This will be added in the next few weeks.  In the meantime you can use the Overview at the bottom of the chart to filter the view (right-click on the chart and select Show > Overview to add this if it's not already).

How are you finding the new platform so far?

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi. I use the trading platform on PC, mobile and iPad. In general I like the design and navigation of this complex platform.

However one issue stands out, and that is I can't view all the text for RNS and news. In most cases I have to scroll across to read the entire line and then scroll back again to read the start of the next line. This is a problem, so please can you ask the developer team to help?

Also there's no format for RNS so it's difficult to see the tabular information. If you look at London and South East's RNS presentation, then that's what I'd like to see.

Thanks.

You'll be glad to know we've now added the option to turn off the price line. Right-click on a chart, select Show > Price Line.

Hate it! I preferred the grey background of the old platform and the prices didn't flash like a Vegas casino. This new version is an assault on the eyes.

I used to develop trading software for banks. The first complaint I got from professional traders were they didn't want the prices flashing as it's a huge distraction.

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Sorry, really disappointed.  Several functions that were useful to me on the 'original ' webtrading platform have been dropped only to be replaced by the ubiquitous gibberring Twitter nonsense.
When on Tick there is no Pivot/resistance line marking available. There is one on the proper one without problems.
Large black flickering current price label is irritating and one cannot drag the graph to the left as it just gets pulled back.
Make it transparent like the original 'proper' one.
Instead of the 7 day Overview along the bottom there is a blank area telling me that the Overview is not available.
Surely if you intend to move over to a different platform it should have at least all the original functions.
Too much concentration on style over reduced functions and substance.
Yes, agreed the deal ticket is an improvement. But where is the AutoChartist etc  link?
I am still having to stretch/shrink the size of the prices on the righthand side of the graph. Can it not be set in the 'my defaults' to fixed spacing e.g. 10 points
I dont think I could survive a week looking at this, I do hope I will not be forced to move to an alternative company if you cannot offer the choice of the new or the original version to your customers for the future.

Certainly hope that this will not replace the Classic Platform but be offered alongside it for those who wish for Twitter feed and flashiness...  It seems down market when compared to Classic and designed to twitter feed a gambling mentality.  Not my cup of tea.

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

old platform works fine, improvements to news would ave been good to allow saved terms

but what gets me is that rather than ig  say cutting down its ridiculous 2.5% interest rate funding spread  or allowing tighter stops to the market even though they are not firm  or tighter spreads on bitcoin , thinking about the spreads it makes during illiquid hours where customers seem to be stopped out at random highs and lows etc  for instance should a stop trigger only when that price is traded .. not when ig "thinks" the bid or offer is at that level  .. instead   they are using money to build new platform

i recommend ig invests its money in improving the way it operates, make it less like a bucket shop casino especially with the fca looking into spread betting companies

new platforms can wait and just mask bigger issues

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Very disappointed that there is no facility to sort open positions. I have several open option positions, and on the old platform I could sort these by expiry moth and/or by strike price. Now the positions are all over the place. Is this IG's idea of "improvement"?

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

i'm afraid this is just one of the basic things that appear to have been overlooked... the default sort for markets from the left menu is "most popular first". If you change that, the new setting is forgotten as soon as you close the menu. You constantly have to re-sort.

But more importantly, a number of markets seem totally missing: how do i find the digital 100s for indices (for the day, not for 5 minutes...)? and the option markets? You would think i could find them with "search" like in the classic platform: nope...

The search function is really funny: search for "crude" and US and brent appear. Fair enough

But search for "crude 6000" and prudential plc (?) along with "the grouden group limited" suddenly appear! What the hell is it searching for?

I always thought the old platform was great and liked everything about it. I totally hate this new thing. I agree with every negative comment about this platform posted here. In particular I don't need integration of every possible detail (news, charts etc) in this platform, I just want it to be fast, well arranged and simple. If I need news and charts I will open other windows from other providers. You can't integrate everything in a single platform. I really hope you are going to keep the old one.

Hi @grf5

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear your thoughts on the Twitter feed. You can hide it using the toggle at the top of the feed, or just use it as a feed for notifications such as recent trades:

New platform hide twitter.png

Also I'm keen to know what you mean by flashiness? Is it the flashing prices you'd like to disable or something else?

Lastly, the classic platform is not going away any time soon. It will still be available for at least 12 months.

Hi @Asdf

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback. Sorry to hear you're not liking the new platform.

How are you finding the speed of the platform? We've done a lot of work to improve how fast the page loads, panels open etc. We've also added a much better one-click dealing system (and saved deal settings) so that if you just want to trade quickly without the bells and whistles, you can. Interested to know what you think?

I've noted your comments on the Twitter feed. You can disable that using the toggle, or keep it for deal notifications (the layout saves automatically).

Trying to grips with new site, if you could explain a couple of points for me it might help.

1. When I have a workspace set out how I want it, i.e. I have open positions on left and two watchlists on the right, how do I stop the watchlists disappearing every time I click on an open position or change to aggregate view, there doesn't seem to be a way to "save Layout" like on the classic site?

2. How do I sort columns on watchlist e.g. % change on day, again it was possible on classic but not on the new one.

Many Thanks

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi @AntonL, thanks for all the updates recently - good to know what's happening.  I was shocked though at the "12 months" comment regarding the "classic" platform.  The new platform is unusable for me and I have seen no real improvement in the last 6 months.  I'm hugely disappointed in IG after having been a big fan for many years.  Speaking as a developer myself I appreciate the difficulties but this seems poorly planned and executed by IG and my confidence is severely dented.

If IG adopted a professional approach it would share a list of issues and what it currently believes are the highest priority issues (rather than fix odd things that crop up).  The users would be delighted to help with prioritising.  This would allow both IG and users to understand what changes are likely and the timescales to expect them in.

Sadly I guess that I shall have to start looking for other providers.

Hi @ianc134

We'll be putting up more info soon about what's coming next for the new platform, so it's clearer what we're working on over the next weeks and months. Just to clarify the classic platform, the purpose of keeping them in tandem for a long time is to make sure we gather the right feedback  I hope you keep giving us your feedback as we release these new features!

You mentioned previously about selecting a chart time period. What else would you like to see added or improved?

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi @AntonL thanks.

Unfortunately there is quite a lot I don't like - I agree with many of the comments in here.  But for me the fact that the fonts are illegible and that I can't see the whole name of the name of the investment (under some circumstances) mean that I can't be sure which item is which. These are showstoppers for me - I'm not going to be using something I can't read.

I hope you can get a consolidated issue list, priorities and timescales soon.

Best wishes,

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

IG have missed a golden opportunity to provide better trade reporting, and as I have said before, have given us something that looks like a casino.

The white background is terrible. I don't even know if I click buy or sell, whether it will send some undetermined amount to the market without a stoploss or target. Thank god I use a different platform for charting.

How about some functionality that gives us:

Sharpe ratio

Win rate

Average expectancy

A graph of wins and losses, P&L, drawdown

etc, etc, etc, in the same way that MyFXBook does.

I used to be a programmer and develop systems for the banks. I will happily develop a better system for you. This is a Mickey Mouse effort that would be laughed off a trading floor - sorry!

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

I only had exposure to the New Platform over that last 48hr, so having read and appreciated the other contributors on here I have some observations that might be useful to your efforts.

I discovered the New Platform when it automatically opened without my selection, and coincided with a move to Chrome out of frustration with Mozilla Firefox and previously Explorer. Unfortunately multiple Google Chrome crashes was a bad start that has negatively coloured the New Platform experience. So I will be going back to the Classic Platform until its enhancements have been fully developed.

Some obvious issues – though not major and perhaps easily fixed

  1. The left hand fly menu item does not fill fully to the right as in these two images.

 FB-I.jpg

  1. The price label on the left should be brought to the front so that where it overlaps multiple lines they do not appear cutting through the numbers in the label.

 FB-II.jpg

Feedback Preferences:

  • I would like to be able to see what tabs I have in a My Workspace (let’s say the last MW opened) while I look at items selected from the fly menu at the left.

 FB-III.jpg

  • Anywhere the SELL and BUY prices are displayed the SPREAD should be noted just as you do in the ticket space.

  • Where the change in points or percentage is shown (top left of screen, watchlists ) the period of time covered should be obvious. It varies by product so it is helpful to show it next to the data or by mouse cursor hover. Currently the hover just repeats the displayed numbers.

 FB-V.jpg

  • I think it is useful in long term strategic trade positions to have the date of opening as well as the price of opening, and besides the running P&L a running Fees/costs column for the trade. There is certainly plenty of space on the window for these.

  • I don’t like any labels that hide the scale on the right of a chart; current live price as shown below – could perhaps be put on the left of the graph so it is not interfering with the candles or the scale. Why does the graph proceed into the scale and under the current live price anyway? Yes you can drag it left, but perhaps this should be automatically kept out from the scale. Another thought - maybe the current live price could be attached to the last candle rather than embedded in the scale.
  • Likewise the deal buttons are on top of the scale.

 FB-IV.jpg

  • As we are on scales, can the resolution of the scale be made user adjustable at certain levels.

  • I like to insert horizontal lines to illustrate a trading range or area of significance. Doing it directly on the chart is not always possible – albeit close. Why not have the facility in Watchlists, Positions and Orders for columns of additional user defined information, like as you can edit a Stop you could enter a precise line location and you could also have a column for lines that reflect the last trading day, week, month, year high or low for the product– provided by IG drop down menu. If the Watchlist is a list of commonly traded products from which you start the day it would be convenient to have these features. This stuff to me is more important than any Twitter/ News feed - expecting that the IG.com Market data will remain.
  • While it is now possible not to show the Open position or Order on the chart, why not include the price level for the trade and make the bet details display optional in settings? So [GTC 10200.8 £5/pt] or [GTC 10200.8] for example.

FB-VI.jpg

  • That's it to start with (!)... I have a lot of indicator & analytical capability comments for the charts but probably beyond a trading platform's purpose.

Cheers - and good luck - you have a lot to do.

I would like some extra functionality too, but in the meantime will continue filling out my journal which does most of what @SDTrader describes, I lift the info straight from the 'current activity' tab on the old platform but that seems to be replaced with a 'recently closed' tab on the new platform which gives only the barest amount (not enough) of info.

Re: Give your feedback on IG's new web trading platform

Hi,

Overall I'm happy with the new platform. It's taking a bit to get used to it but I like it is much faster than the old one. The one feature I was missing before and I'm still missing today is that I'd like to display in the opened positions tab another column with the percentage of day change in the position. I hope you take this into consideration for future releases.

Thanks
