When buying a spread bet I want to place a limit buy order above the ask.
When the order is placed it should market buy up to that limit price, thus limiting the highest price I am willing to be filled at. This is how I protect against slippage in my other brokerage account.
However, when I place a buy order above the ask on IG, it automatically turns into a STOP buy order.
So currently I am unaware of how I can limit negative slippage when opening a spread bet.
Any guidance would be truly appreciated. -

Figured it out!
Go to settings, then in the advanced section change 'deal type' to 'pts through current'. You should then see a 'tolerance' box in you deal tab, where you can enter how many points of slippage to allow.
I went through the academy, numerous IG articles, spoke to 2 customer service agents and there was no mention of this...
