Wall Street Call options price explanation

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I am hoping someone can help with an explanation on the price movement of an options trades I have open at the moment.

I purchased a 28000 Call Option (June 20 expiry) when the dow was trading about 21500.

Last night at approximately 6:40pm Australian Eastern Standard Time my position was up approximately 15% when the dow was trading at 22200.

In less than 5 minutes I witnessed my position turn to 50% down with no justification. The dow only moved a few hundred points down.

The dow finished up last night at 23185 and my position is still approximately 50% down.
This isn't making any sense. I'm not new to options and am highly confused.

I'm hoping an experienced trader may be able to provide an explanation to this. I have contact IG markets last night by phone which timed out after an 18 minute wait, then sent an email and still waiting on a response.

Many thanks
Natho
