Hi Hutton, when you close a position your account is credit or debited with the profit/loss. Your margin used to keep the trade open is also returned to your account and can be used for another trade.

Example:

Account size 5.000£

Position:1£ Long FTSE100. The margin used for this position is 1.000£.

I close the position for a profit of 100£. 100£ is credit to my account. Account is now worth 5100£ - happy days.

IG then returns to you the 1000£ that you used as down payment to open the trade. You don't see the 1000£ credit or debited. This happens in the background. You can keep track of this by looking at the available margin in the trading platform.

    • process check , mike check , paycheque..... I actually missed this move ... 😅 .... Very hard trying to juggle a 50plus hour week and trading ..... any way here is the follow up from my post on the FTSE from  11-05-2021👇     With the greatest respect to IG INDEX , it's not time to be bearish .... not yet at least..... Here is what the FTSE did a few days later.........
    • Yeah........ so that happened ...
    • Hi kinda interested in your margin problem, I trade very small cap shares in spread bet in both Uk and US, then the margin call is very rare as long as you have enough capital to cover the 80% falls that can occur with odd news. Have worked of Forex a lot and just find it too unstable. Just wondere if ant other person has this method. I would be interested to share ideas.
