Paper trading ISA account

Miroslav

Question

Hello,

I am interested in algorithmic trading on my Stocks and Shares ISA account in IG. However, in terms of paper trading, I can only get access to CFDs and spread betting. How could I best simulate a share trading environment? I have been reading about demo MT4 accounts but as far as I understand these are separate accounts altogether.

Could anyone advise on the best course of action?

Many thanks.

Hi @Miroslav,

Thank you for your post.

You are right, unfortunately ProRealTime is only available for spread bets and CFD accounts, therefore you cannot do paper trading for a share dealing account.

MT4 accounts are also only available for leveraged accounts (spread bets and CFDs).

All the best,

Hi @KoketsoIG,

Many thanks for the reply. Do you by any chance know how professional traders deal with this? Paper trading is quite an essential part of developing a strategy so I imagine those that use IG as their main platform must have some ways of testing their strategy. One way I can think of doing it is using a different broker just for paper trading but that can also have its disadvantages I guess because it's a different environment altogether.

Kind regards,

Miroslav

Hi @Miroslav,

To qualify for a professional account, you need to have a leveraged account (CFD or spread bet), therefore our professional traders mostly make use of ProRealTime demo to test their strategies. We also do have API which can be accessed on: https://labs.ig.com/

Thanks,

    • Some indices in Asia saw a modest rebound, but the ASX200 and Nikkei continued to fall, following on from yet more heavy losses in the US. Stocks continue to take a battering from the realisation that the Fed would leave US rates at their current levels for a longer period than previously thought, leading to a reversal in equities and a resumption of the losses seen in the early part of September. Today's data is dominated by flash PMIs from around the globe, in the wake of a Bank of Japan statement that left policy unchanged and maintained its dovish outlook. While US futures have recovered slightly, European markets seem set for a choppy open.
