The next two weeks are, as is usual, quite. Only Nike on 20 December is of note on the corporate front. Meanwhile, US durable goods orders in the first week, and then Chinese PMI data right at the end of the year, provide the only real major economic events to watch. Video

11.30pm – Japan unemployment (November):
 rate to hold at 2.7%. Markets to watch: JPY crosses

3pm – US pending home sales (November): expected to fall 2% MoM. Markets to watch: USD crosses

3.30pm – US EIA crude oil inventories (w/e 24 December): Markets to watch: Brent, WTI

Thursday

1.30pm – US initial jobless claims (w/e 25 December) Markets to watch: USD crosses

2.45pm – US Chicago PMI (December): previous reading 61.8. Markets to watch: USD crosses

Friday

UK markets close at 12pm

1am – China NBS mfg & non-mfg PMI (December): mfg index to rise to 50.5 while non-mfg edges up to 52.5. Markets to watch: China indices, CNH crosses
