Managing Trades Seperately

Recommended Posts

Hi Say i'm long S&P and in profit, with a stop loss set on the trade.

If i then want to take another long position in S&P, how do i manage the second trade independently of the first? How can i set a stop loss for the second trade, and manage the 2 trades Independently, with different stop losses?

I tried the Force Open option when trying the second trade, and it showed the 2 positions seperately on the chart.

In the Positions box, it seems the 2 trades are combined and averaged,  Is that right?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @sanders12,

The Force open option is to open a position going on the opposite direction on the same market.
If you open two position on an index it should display as below in your open positions:image.png

From there you will see your two positions that you can manage separately.

I hope that it helps.

All the best - Arvin

    • Why isn't there a way to set options stop loss on IG platform?  Are you planning to implement this feature?
    • Hi,  I started trading Brent Crude Oil in IG platform but I could find a formula to correctly calculate the size I have to put while creating a position, based on the available amount I have. The quotation is based in points and it makes me wonder how operate. Any help is welcome.  Also, I plan to work with some leverage in the future, so any tip on this matter is also welcome.  Thanks.
