Indices: Relief rally sees Europe on a stronger open. Tech stocks lead gains on Wall St after TWTR deal. Earnings may hold the key for the day’s broader direction

VIX 6wk high as tech earnings expose the sector as being over-valued and global growth fears stalk the entire market

Indices: Tech earnings and those growth fears dragging down the entire market – NDAQ hits 1yr low. Europe expected to open down as RUS gas tensions rise, but UKX best performer

Equities:  GOOG down 6% on poor Q1 while MSFT climbed 0.7% all sessions. TSLA down 12% as Musk’s eye turns to TWTR business and on concerns about deal funding. Earnings today – LLOY GSK SMWH LSE CBK DBK CSGN BA FB F.

FX: No let up on USD strength – nearing pandemic peak. USD rise vs CNH stalls as better that expected China industrials profits data. GBPEUR falls below 200SMA.  

Commods: Gold continues to show weakness in the face of a rising USD. Oil up for a second day as RUS gas tensions climb

Market data to trade on Wednesday: US rates; BOO, UBER and VOW

The big economic event of the day is the US interest rate decision for which markets have already priced in a 50bp rise. The risk could be in the rhetoric where the Fed may indicate it’s on the hawkish side for future rate rises.

In corporate news IGTV’s Jeremy Naylor looks at the charts of BooHoo (BOO) on FY, and Volkswagen (VOW) and Uber Technologies (UBER) for their Q1 earnings. UBER trades all-sessions on the IG platform.

Early Morning Call: USD 10-yr yields fall; AMD jumps; copper at new low

USD in focus today for ADP private payrolls and US rates. On the earnings front LYFT down 27%, ABNB down 0.5%, AMD up 7% - JDW, BOO, DLG, FLTR, AML, UBER report today. And copper hits 2022 low and rebounding.

Market data to trade on Thursday: UK rates; Shell

It’s the turn of the Bank of England to decide on rates. Coming, as it does, after the US rate decision, it’s difficult to see how sterling will trade but IGTV’s Jeremy Naylor looks at GBP/USD.

Outside of this, AUD/USD may be in view with Aussie trade numbers. Finally, on the corporate list, we look at Shell and SocGen.

Early Morning Call: Fed lifts equity markets; BoE rates; earnings update

Fed gives lift to equity markets as chair, Jerome Powell, rules out 75 bps hike. The BoE, meanwhile, is today expected to increase rates by 25 bps. And on the earnings front numbers today from Shell, Airbus and Lufthansa.

Market data to trade on Friday: USD/JPY; WTI; IAG

After the Federal Reserve assured markets that there are further 50 bps hikes down the line, attention now turns to the jobs market, with the April NFP report on Friday expected to show that 391,000 jobs were created last month.
