European stocks oslightly higher as monetary policy decisions take center stage

LONDON — European stocks opened higher on Monday as attention shifts from the omicron Covid variant to monetary policy decisions by some of the world’s largest central banks.


The pan-European Stoxx 600 rose by 0.2%, with most sectors and major bourses in positive territory.

The U.K.’s FTSE opened 4 points higher at 7,295, the German DAX was up 3 points at 15,703 and France’s CAC added 6 points at 6,998.

It is set to be an important week for monetary policy with the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan, the Bank of England and the European Central Bank all due to make decisions this week.
