S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 Drive in to 'Bear Market' Territory Ahead of the Fed

Jun 13, 2022 | DailyFX
James Stanley, Senior Strategist

S&P 500, NASDAQ 100 TALKING POINTS:

  • I had looked at U.S. equities in this week’s technical forecast and as shared there, the picture isn’t pretty.
  • Bears have come back in a big way in U.S. equities ahead of the Wednesday FOMC rate decision.
  • Perhaps the most bullish thing going at the moment is just how bearish everyone is and that’s not a great thing. At the source of the move is a continued jump in Treasury rates as traders are now expecting a 75 bp move in July. But – if the Fed says in Wednesday’s forecasts that they’re only looking at 50, that could be motive for support/pullback or, perhaps even short-term reversal as we saw in March.
  • We’ve been discussing these themes at DailyFX throughout 2022 and a host of analysts have taken bearish stances on US equities as ‘Top Trades’ for Q2
