As far as I understand it, the API can only be used with spreadbetting or CFD accounts - not general stock broking or ISA accounts. The error message seems to suggest that it is trying to connect to a stock broking account.

Is it not just the spread? As soon as you open a position you will see a negative PL due to the difference between the buy and sell price.
