Can't short some stocks

Mitrad12

Question

Hi,

I am experienced in buying within ISAs however I am new to IG and shorting using spread bets and have tried to short some stocks on my demo account including Mulberry, Deliveroo and Just eat. I also tried Deliveroo on my live account but do not get the option to short on any of them only to close, is this because they are deemed too high risk by IG?

Thanks Ian

in case of deliveroo ,apparently you can short by phoning the centre...  as I did ....after confirming my id name , full address and passed all security checks ...  then stay on hold for 8:23 minutes to be put to the trader who then ask me how many shares I wanted to short   and gives me a price which was  obviously way of the price i called to  short .so you politely thank the trader and hang up the phone .

Hi Ian

Thank you for the question, We only offer Mulberry on a share dealing/ISA account due to the share being unborrowable as well as high broker margin.  This means that you would not be able to take a short position on this share because we do not offer opening positions on leveraged(spread bet or CFD) accounts. Deliveroo is unborrowable meaning we are unable to borrow stock from our broker against which we can offer short positions. In cases where a substantial number of our clients are long we can borrow against our own inventories and potentially offer you a short position. You will have to call in and check borrow in this case. Just Eat London listing is available for short positions on the DFB contract, The US listing is only available for share dealing/ISA. Please note that you can check under market info>other to see if there are any trading restrictions on a share. Hope this helps

Regards
