Collateral Service

taxiboy

Question

I want to open a share dealing account, hold shares and link that to my SB account so I can open positions using the collateral service. Say I own £10,000 of shares in my share dealing account and the SB has an initial margin of 5%, is there a way to increase the initial margin to say 10% so that more of my share dealing account would be used up as collateral to open the position, thereby reducing the amount of maintenance margin required?

Hi @taxiboy

The margin is fixed, so there is no way to adjust it. Margin requirements are less on a Professional account though. You can see the following link if you would like an idea: https://www.ig.com/uk/pro-margins

Collateral will allow you to use the value of your shares to cover the margin requirements on the leverage account. However the percentage required cannot be adjusted.

All the best,

Anda

Hi @taxiboy

Thanks for reaching out,

We do offer a collateral service, but only to professional clients. You can see the requirements for a professional account from the following link: https://www.ig.com/uk/professional

Read more on our collateral service from the following link: https://www.ig.com/uk/investments/share-dealing/collateral-service

All the best,

Thank you, I have read this but it does not mention whether you can increase the initial margin.

    • This analysis provides insights into the Elliott Wave patterns observed in major NASDAQ stocks, including the NASDAQ 100, S&P 500, and key companies like Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA), Amazon (AMZN), Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Meta Platforms (META), Netflix (NFLX), and Alphabet (GOOGL). Currently, we assess that the Wave (4) low may have been established across these indices, signaling a potential shift to a "Risk On" stance. This scenario suggests that building long positions in most technology stocks could be increasingly viable. However, the inherent risk lies in the possibility that Wave (4) may not yet be fully in place. As a precaution, we continue to manage existing risks carefully. Should the market conditions confirm the placement of Wave (4), we will be better positioned to safely escalate our long trading positions in anticipation of the next upward movement.
