Is this the expected behaviour? What does the field streamingPricesAvailable mean? I was under the impression that this markets can be connected to via lightstreamer. Is there another API to get market prices via API for this markets?

It looks like there is a problem with the IG API streaming service at the moment. My Excel Add-in, which has been working fine for years, has suddenly stopped streaming prices.

I receive either the "Instrument not redistributable" messages (for instruments that have streamed fine in the past) or there is a connection error.

I will also email API support.

  2. Hi,

Just to let you know I have built an Excel Add-in which provides lots of IG functionality directly in Excel.

You can stream/download live prices as well as account data such as your trade history:

    https://www.excelpricefeed.com/userguide/positions-trade-history-download-excel-ig-index

I fully support it and regularly add new features, you can try it free for 10 days to see if it helps you:

    Cheers,

    Andy

Thanks for following up. Unfortunately something strange is going on here. I don't have the option under that menu either.

I don't have that option either. I am using the latest version of both the app and iOS.

I can use Face ID for other apps. Very odd.

Hi, as title suggests, how can I export my positions to a csv / excel file please?

Hi, I've built an Excel Add-in which has the ability to easily download your positions into Excel:

    https://www.excelpricefeed.com/userguide/positions-trade-history-download-excel-ig-index

So you can have something like this in Excel:

    ig-index-download-live-positions-to-excel.png.c6858350369f99308f02896a9c89c3c2.png

It can also download your trade/account history as well as watchlists, stream live prices etc.

Let me know if you need any help using it or have any questions/feedback.

    Cheers,

    Andy

    Hi,

I am using an api to connect to IG.  My UK account logs in with the demo api details straight to the CFD account.  When i use the live account details it logs staright into the SB account.

Does anyone know how i can set the demo api login to default to the demo SB account.  I have looked in IG interface and cant find a thing.

    thanks,

You can use the REST API /session put method to switch the account (I am using this in my code and it works fine).

Check out the documentation for the Session endpoint then scroll down to the PUT method, here you will see how to set the defaultAccount  and accountId:

    I hope this helps.

state’s abundance of natural resources and energy

Great, so the abundance of energy will be used to solve maths problems (mining) to perpetuate a colossal pyramid scheme.

I despair, surely all these natural resources and energy could be put to a better use?

do you compare Bitcoin to the Tulip bubble? Is Bitcoin the Tulipmania that refuses to die or fail?

Yes, that is exactly what I think it is. I think we will look back on this crypto mania period and wonder what on earth we were thinking about (and I haven't even touched on the enormous amount of energy and resources dedicated to crypto mining!).

Share your thoughts, what is your view?

Bitcoin has no intrinsic value and is effectively a ponzi scheme, hence articles like this which exist solely to entice new money into Bitcoin and keep the merry-go-round going.

Unfortunately it is becoming too big to fail and will probably require a bailout of sorts. There are too many VCs, jobs and “investors” dependent on the bubble perpetually inflating.

As a brand new user getting into bitcoin for the very first time and with zero experience, so I am completely exposed and vulnerable, how donI stay safe from scamming companys out there and what signs do i look out for when my phone wont stop ringing non stop?

If you want to avoid scams don't go anywhere near cryptocurrenices/bitcoin.

See the problem with just making up a graphic with no data or data source to back it up means it's just someone's view of what might be.

It's illustrative to show that even with an effective vaccine you can still have lots of people in ICU:

    Quote

It’s about making a fair comparison. People who wear seat belts can still die in a car collision. People who use condoms can still get STIs. People who eat healthy can still have high cholesterol. But we know these things reduce the chances of dying in a car crash, of getting an STI, and having high cholesterol, so we adjust our choices.

What I want to know is that if you are trading NDX daily and you pay for a call option strike price of  16270 which commands a premium of 137.

If NDX gets to 16420, then you can exercise you right, so the profit would be 16420-16270 = 150.  If you have 1 contract this would be 100 "shares" = 15000, and then subtract your premium =14863 USD profit.

This is how it works with spreadbetting:

    Your "break even" price is 16270 + 137 = 16407

If NDX gets to 16420 then you have made 16420-16407  = 13 points profit.

If you bet say 10 GBP per point then your profit would be 13 x 10 = 130 GBP

Taking the other side of the bet, selling PUTS that are far out of the money, why does it show as a negative as soon as you sell it. If it OTM you collect the premium and hope it expires worthless. eg on the demo account I sold a 16242 PUT daily NDX exp today. The current price is 16400. Well out of the money, why does it show as a negative balance.

Because there is a bid/offer spread. As soon as you open the trade your PL is negative because if you want to reverse the trade it would cost you the spread.

Spread bet options do not work like regular options, you are betting on the price of the option rather than buy/selling an actual option.

    I hope this helps!

  12. Hi,

Does anybody know if it is possible to plot my historical trades on a chart? I don't believe it is possible on the IG platform, however is there some other software that I could easily use to achieve this (linked to my IG account so the trades are plotted automatically).

I would like to do this so I can review my weeks trading, see where I made profit/loss and basically help me improve.

If nothing exists then as I am a software developer may look into building this for myself!

    Thanks!

i want to integrate the/a platform with an excel spreadsheet,  Ihave tried to integrate the sample provided by I G, but cannot get them to connecr.

I've built an Excel Add-in that makes it very easy to connect to IG and stream live prices, download historical data, account data (positions) etc.

    https://www.excelpricefeed.com/

It requires an IG API key to work, and you can use it with your demo or live account.

Let me know if you have any questions or need any help.

  14. I suggest you build something in Excel to keep track of your portfolio.

You can use an Add-in that I have built that connects to both Yahoo Finance and IG Index (spread betting and CFD, not shares as it uses the IG API): https://www.excelpricefeed.com/

The Add-in provides formulas, such as =EPF.Yahoo.Sector("AAPL") which will populate a cell with the industry sector for Apple stock.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any feedback or need any help.
