no, but some option dealing platforms will allow a select few sipps to “link “ to them eg interactive brokers and saxotrader will allow option dealing in atsipp.co.uk SIPP ....I have a feeling the type of options strategies might be limited to covered calls since margin is probably not allowed in a sipp...so you may be able to do 1. but maybe not 2.(except if u have the cash to cover the put)

open an account with interactive brokers or saxobank etc or if you dont mind the account being us based, firstrade or tastytrade - both these allow uk residents to open accounts and are low cost

I suppose the main advantage , especially if you are using a significant amount of capital is no tax on profits with spread betting ....with options you pay capital gains on profits over £12,500 ..

I am in a similar position to you ......a few years ago i started trading us options via saxo bank....but the currency conversions were costing a lot , then they allowed me to upgrade have the account in usd and gbp ...but their dealing fees arent very competitive....so I mainly use tastytrade and firstrade for my us option trades...both allow uk residents to open accts....the accounts stay in usd ....

I think this is correct - as you are only betting on the price of options with ig, compared to a proper option dealing platform, if your put ends up in the money, you wont be assigned the gold, you will just lose the cash ...

you can trade options using spread bets (or cfd ) but the platform only shows indices , some commodities and fx , not individual shares....unfortunately none of the greeks are shown, but you could get that data from an options website/ desling platform?..

they are available under the options tab in spread bet (and cfd I think)

Hi Sam, when you say nasdaq options not monthly , isn’t the us tech 100 on IG the equivalent of nasdaq/ QQQ and these are showing as monthly as far as i can see?

thats a meaningless statement...depends on whether you are buying or selling the puts/calls

...Equityoptions can only be traded over the phone. Once opened the position will appear on your positions tab and it will reflect the profit/ loss. You will, have to call to deal though. All the best -
it takes a while to get your head around options....optionsalpha and tastytrade have a load of free videos etc, going from basics with no knowledge at all about options to advanced traders...

1. the underlying needs to fall by more than the cost of the option
2. there is also the spread
3. volatility changes can affect the option price ....but if the underlying has dropped more than the cost of the option at expiration , you should have a profit

Of course you can use them sensibly , you just have to wait for the exp date for premium as i said in my post above....I also sell put options on us shares in a broker account...what I like with IG is that I can do the equivalent of selling puts on SPY with US500 spread bet here, but without needing a big account as the underlying is much less ....its just a shame its only indices you can trade online and not individual stocks

you only get the premium after the expiration date ( assuming the trade hasnt gone against you/ you and the option is “in the money”...

i dont think you can trade weekend options , you can only bet on indices etc directly...

yes, buy back put and if you sell another further out in time , you should be able to cover your loss and have a small credit

the expiry only relates to the buy limit price of 19.47, so of it can buy them at this price or less on the day , it will.But if price stays above 19.47 it wont buy them for you .Then you will have to try again next day. It you want to buy immediately , you will have to either change to buy at market price if it lets you or raise your limit price.
Once you have the shares you can keep until you sell
