We've released options for the Volatility Index. You can find them on our platform under the options tab> Indices.

Options, when buying the call/ put, are a great way to get involved in market movement whilst having limited risk.

Contracts offered : Currently offer the next two months (November and December)
Expiry for monthly options : Every 3rd Wednesday of the month
Last trade : 21:15 GMT the day before expiry
Settlement : Settled basis the Special Opening Quotation (SOQ) of VIX calculated by the opening prices of the SPX constituents used to calculate the VIX index on settlement date

Have I got this right? the margin to open a vix option is a lot less than the margin to open a regular vix position. that also seems true for all options as well?

When you're buying a call/put you put down your full loss (size x price of the option) which is the premium. If the market moves in your favor you will win as much as the market moves past your break even point. Below is an example for buying a call.

I only see VIX option contracts expiring in the current month and one month ahead, currently DEC and JAN, but others seem to have access to options expiring in MAR and beyond on other platforms. Will IG be offering options with later expiries in the future?

Are there limitations to nationality/location with this instrument?

Located in Scandinavia, and this instrument is not showing on my options list.

Just got off the phone with Scandinavian helpdesk, and for unknown reasons, we are only offered barrier options of the VIX instrument. I certainly hope that we will also be offered the vanila instrument as well in the future.

There are times when the market is clearly open, but unable to trade on IG Index account. It's normally a technical issue on the IG Index side.

On the settlement date on option on VIX monthly future, is there a rough timeline on when we can expect the settlement to happen? I would assume the SOQ of the SPX constituents should be available before NY market opens but it's currently 10 am Eastern time on the settlement date but I still don't see my trades settled yet.

Referring to:

Settlement : Settled basis the Special Opening Quotation (SOQ) of VIX calculated by the opening prices of the SPX constituents used to calculate the VIX index on settlement date
