Your thoughts on ProRealTime

Thousands of IG clients love using ProRealTime for the Decision support tools, Trading interface, Automatic trading and Backtesting capabilities. With that in mind we are always trying to improve the client experience and would appreciate it greatly if you could tell us about your experience using ProRealTime. 

 

Some of the particular points we are interested in:

• Did you know about ProRealTime before joining IG?
• What feature convinced you that ProRealTime was the platform to use?
• Is it an easy process to activate ProRealTime, if not how can we make it easier for you?
• Is it easy  to launch ProRealTime or would you like to launch it in a different way?
• Do you like the default blue template or do you prefer another, what is your favorite ProRealTime template?
• Which windows do you think are essential to see on a default ProRealTime template?
• What would you like to change or add to the platform?

I forgot to add one of the most important point for improvement. The current alerting system in Prorealtime is absolutely terrible. We should be able to upload as many custom sounds as we like and to select any uploaded sound for each different alert.

Ideally we should also be able to call a function in code to sound an alert in a custom indicator. MT4 and MT5 already have this but I appreciate that adding it to PRT would be a lot of work for the developers.

Multiple custom sounds should really be there already though. I seem to recall that this used to be in the software in one of the earlier versions several years ago.

The fast amount of overall options, automatic trendlines, alert options

Yes

Easy enough

I made my own black one. But the overall interface does look a bit dated (Windows XP style). 

• Which windows do you think are essential to see on a default ProRealTime template?

Auto trendlines

• What would you like to change or add to the platform?

Quite a bit:

1) It happens multiple times that the the price action of the candles is shown on your own platform, but not in PRT.

2) Possibility to link multiple charts with timeframes to eachother, instead of just one ticker.

3) Alerts by mail with more possible rules, not only on price levels.

4) PRT doesn't show you the margin required for a trade, or how much I still have availible.

No, I never heard of ProRealTime before.

• What feature convinced you that ProRealTime was the platform to use?

Java based so runs on Mac smoothly, trading shortcuts, Elgato Stream Deck support, volume candles!!! I've only recently discovered this platform when I was clicking around in my IG account, and it quickly became so essential to my trading, I don't know how I traded before discovering it. This is literally the BEST platform for my trading style. Thank you for offering it!

• Is it an easy process to activate ProRealTime, if not how can we make it easier for you?

It was extremely easy.

• Is it easy  to launch ProRealTime or would you like to launch it in a different way?

It is easy, however it would even be easier if I could simply click on the software icon instead of logging in to IG every time and starting it from there.

• Do you like the default blue template or do you prefer another, what is your favorite ProRealTime template?

It's not bad, but I immediately switched it to the dark template as it is easier for my eyes.

• Which windows do you think are essential to see on a default ProRealTime template?

Charts & open positions.

• What would you like to change or add to the platform?

Mobile app, sessions indicator to highlight different market sessions (eg overnight, daytime etc), shortcuts linked to order templates to open positions with the preset template.

  More historical data for backtesting (200K is not enough for lower timeframes; preferably be able to use all available data since the instrument started trading), significantly faster backtesting with larger datasets (or perhaps an option to execute these backtests on own machine rather than on PRT servers), extension (or better yet, removal) of automatic closing/termination of PRT software after 18 hours of continuous usage (some backtests can take longer than this to complete), allow simultaneous backtesting of multiple trading systems (with the results screen summarising and ranking the best systems),  plus a setting/toggle to enable automatic saving of workspace every few minutes (or a user-defined period).

100% agree with what you would like changed or add to platform.

2. Programing language is easy to use.

3. No, find this frustrating. Have to sometimes close the application and re-open it to get PRT backtesting to start. I would prefer the backtesting to be done on my own PC and only get the instrument data from IG. 

4. Do not use.

5. No preference as I create my own templates.

6.1) Would prefer backtesting to be done on my own machine. Data speed from IG is slow and frustrating.

6.2) Data of 200K units for tick or second timeframes are inadequate. To do proper backtesting we need data for a few years to cover all potential market conditions for instruments. 

6.3) Stop resetting the PRT link after extended hours of use. It stops backtesting and all the work is for nothing. The time it takes to do the backtesting is due to IG providing in the first instance a slow network speed. I am lucky to get a receive data speed from IG to my PC of 8 Kbps. My internet connection runs stable via cable at 100 Mbps.
