Average PE ratio by industry/sector?

Recommended Posts

As the title says, is there any one reliable source for average PE ratio by industry/sector, and by major indices?

I'm trading across multiple industries and sectors, and indices, and trying to geta sense of whether a PE for a specific stock is high or low.

A reference table or better still, calculator or rating tool that compare the stock to the average.

An alternative approach would be to compare relative strengths and BPI charts for the different sectors and subsectors. This will indicate sectors in favour with institutions and hence most likely to rise in price.50 day moving average is trigger point for buy or sell so BPI chart for that would give you a signal

Thansk all for the replies.

I'm quite new to trading so not sure if I've been clear.

An example is:

I'm looking at 'Company X' - a semiconductor company.

I calculate the PE for 'Company X'.

I now want to refer to an easily accessible (ideally dynamically updating from live data) of what the semiconductor industry average PE is, so I can quickly see if 'Company X' is above or below the industry average.

As I am trying to diversify in several industries, I don't want to have to calculate multiple PE ratios for other companies and take an average to see if the company I'm interest in has a "high" or "low" PE. To do this across multiple inustries would be time consuming.

Take a look at Stockopedia. It is a paid service which sounds like it will cover what you are looking for - in the scenario above, has metrics which ranks the stock against its industry / sector peers to give you an indication of earning, profitability etc.

It is primarily a fundamental service which has its own stock ranking system/algorithm and enabled you to run screens / scans on various ratio's or fundamental parameters.

I use it myself and it has been pretty good so far. The cost may be seen as a little high for some (it could be made back with a few good trades), but the breadth and depth of info is good.

Layer3 is at the forefront of this revolution, pioneering a new economy where attention can be owned, traded, and monetized   This innovative approach empowers individuals to monetize their engagement, providing unprecedented control over personal data. Simultaneously, advertisers benefit from transparent metrics that optimize campaign performance. • I've been exploring the world of play-to-earn gaming recently, looking for something that's not just about endless grinding but actually offers a fun and rewarding experience. OGC really stood out to me because it combines gaming with a sense of community in a unique way. OGC isn't just a game; it's a platform where you can play, earn, and even help shape its future. You're not just a player; you're part of a community with a voice. The idea of earning crypto while playing games is exciting, but what makes OGC special is its focus on community involvement. Your feedback can directly influence the development of the game, which is a big deal. I've also heard that the OGC token is available for pre-market trading on Bitget. While I'm still getting to know the platform and its features, it's definitely something to keep an eye on. Has anyone else tried OGC? What has your experience been like? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any tips you might have.
