It would be helpful if someone from IG could confirm this. Much is made of all the shares that can be traded as options on the IG website; it would be jarring if the only options available to trade online were the small collection that I can see from the web platform. Thanks.

Thanks for your post. 

Equity options can only be traded over the phone. Once opened the position will appear on your positions tab and it will reflect the profit/ loss. You will, have to call to deal though.
