    Hi,

About Trailing Stops , I check the documentation and when opening the trade a trailing stop can be set , but can a existing position which has a stop be modified to have a trailing stop ?

    Pete

    Hi @boomerang

    Thank you for reaching out.

There are two ways to add a trailing stop.

    1. You can insert a trailing stop when putting in a market order to deal at the current price. This can be done under "Deal" (or Trade in he mobile app) from the dealing ticket on the platform.

    image.png

    2. From open positions.

If you click in the stop box, it gives you the option to select the drop down error where you can find the option to add a trailing stop. You will need to add the following for the trailing stop to be accepted:

    • Stop Level Price level at which current position will close if no trailing advantages occur
    • Stop Distance Number of points the stop level should be away from the current price when trailing advantages occur
    • Step Distance Number of points the underlying market will need to move before trailing advantages occur

Am I able to convert my share trading account from sterling into dollars to trade with, as I mainly trade US stocks?

    Hi @johnny25

    Thanks for reaching out.

You can have a multi- currency account which enables you to have different currency balances in your share trading account. You can change it from your My IG. Please log into your account from the desktop, on My IG, select the tab 'Live Accounts'. You will have the option to change your conversion settings from 'Daily' to 'Manual' from the option 'Currency Conversion'.

For multi-currency accounts, clients will pay commission of 2 cents per share with a minimum charge of $15 on US stocks. Changing your currency conversion settings influences the amount of commission you pay. Our team reviews these changes on a monthly basis, so it may take some time to update your account.

Hi thank you for this information, I wonder how I got this wrong 😢. because that is what I would like, a share dealing account. I will have a look at this, although I am slightly put off because it was not clear to me that I opened the wrong account.

Thanks for the clarification, I guess now I need to figure out how to get what is left of my money out of the CDF account before I start again. At this point looking at the account I am worried I might end up owing it money!!

    Thanks again

    Hi @Armelle

If you close the positions, you only loose the loss made on the position. The margin invested in the position will be returned to your account.

I know how to get news for a specific company using the Search function in a News & Analysis window, for example LLOY.L. But is it possible to get all news for multiple news codes, for example LLOY.L and BAES.L? I haven't found a way of doing it.

    Hi @The_Alnchemist

Could you please paste a screenshot of where on the platform you are accessing News and Analysis.

Hi I am new to IG, I have set up a live account after using the demo account. I have purchased 500 shares in IAG at the price of 139.60 GBP. According to my calculations, this should cost me £698.00 but this is not the amount of money that has been taken from my funds, in fact, it is hard for me to work out how much I paid for this as also the charge for the trade has been taken which I think is £10. I seem to have paid about £100 but nowhere near the amount of £698.00.

When I ordered the shares in the deal box I put 500 into the box named "size". When I did this it said to buy 500 shares @139.60 GBP.

Why have I not paid more money? Do I now own 500 shares in this company? Any ideas I would be grateful.

    Thank you

    Hi Armelle,

If you are trading in a CFD account, you would be trading on leverage. This account is for price speculation where you do not own the underlying asset. If you would like to open a share dealing account where you would be registered as the owner of the shares and shareholder in the company, the correct account to open is a share dealing account.

You can add a share dealing account by logging into your IG account from the desktop. On your My IG, click on 'Add an Account'.

    Thanks for this, great info.

Is it possible to add to an order? for example, if I find a signal I agree with but want to amend to a trailing stop?

or would I need to wait for it to become an open opposition to amend?

    Hi @sketch

We don't have the option to add it to an order. You might have to wait for the position to open to add the trailing stop.

I have held a trading account with IG for over 10 years and recently had a request for banking and employment details which I duly sent. I have traded regularly in my time with IG and have never had any financial problems with them. My account is reasonably well funded if not overly large with at present no open positions. I find it very insulting after holding an account with them for such a long time that they deem my business to not be worthy of them anymore!! I wonder how many other clients have been treated this way?

    Hi @Stokie69

I am sorry you had a negative experience with IG and certain processes we have in place. We review account statuses annually for all leveraged accounts as per regulation. IG must continuously assess the appropriateness of that account for the client. We do this by assessing a combination of financial status and previous trading experience. This is required to protect the interest of our clients. As we provide highly leveraged products, it may not be suitable for everyone and can result in losses that exceed your deposits. If you would still prefer to escalate this, please reach out to helpdesk.uk@ig.com

    Thanks,

I have also been asked for IG's DTC number so that they can transfer shares to my IG account.  Can this be made available or could you provide the contact details they should use for to facilitate the transfer?

    Hi @koaloachka and @urbant

You other broker can contact  transfers@ig.com for more assistance with your DTC and transfer as this can be shared between brokers.

Company I have CFD with is subject to takeover. On the premise that bid is successful  Will I benefit from the sale or am I at risk if I do not close CFD’s before share is delisted?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @Bobabc

CFD positions are also included in the offer. Since the corporate action can have a direct impact on the price of a stock or have some effect on the stock, IG must replicate what occurs in the underlying market on clients leveraged positions

The affect that a takeover will have on an existing CFD position will vary, depending on whether the acquiring company offers cash, stock, or a combination of both for the target company.

    Cash takeovers:

Your position will be closed out when the cash is received and adjusted for interest, depending on the contract of the trade.

    Stock takeovers:

Your original position will be closed, and a new position will be opened to reflect the terms of the takeover, based on the previous night’s closing price. Any stops or limits will be adjusted accordingly.

    Cash and stock takeovers:

The original position will be closed, and a new position will be opened to reflect the terms of the takeover based on the previous night’s closing price and the cash offer, and adjusted for interest depending on the contract of the bet. Any attached stops or limits will be adjusted.

Hey does anyone know how it takes to get your account verified? I’ve been waiting for quite some time.

Hi there, it can take up to a week depending on the number of new applications our account opening receives. In addition to documents, our team conduct their own research and may even contact you to ask additional questions, before approving/ rejecting your application. Whilst you have uploaded all documents, the account team still need to manually activate your account, which is why you can still see ‘pending’. You will receive an email confirmation when your account has been activated.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Hi,

I have opened a demo spreadbet account with IG with a balance of £2000 to mirror how much i would actually have in a future live account

I then wanted to risk 2% of my equity in a trade, so i  selected a bet of £10 per point (the minimum allowed) with a stop loss of 4 points away (2% of balance  = £40) . I know this is a very short stop in a volatile market but it is the only way i can stick to my risk per trade ratio.

However i then was greeted with an error saying the stop must be at least 8 points from the current market price, which would mean a 4% risk of my balance (£80)

Is there a reason for this please or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks

    HL

    Hi @Hampshire321

Thanks for reaching out. All markets will have a set minimum distance and this will be different for each product. These distances can be shown in points or percentage of the price.

During periods of increased or expected market volatility, we may increase the minimum stop distance as compared to the initial stop distance. In such situations you will have to adhere to the new stop distance when amending your stop levels.

    Thanks, OfentseIG

Hi , I am new here and still on a demo account. This has been happening to me all day for the first time, when I open long buy trades , it puts me in high minus straight away, even when the rate is above where I entered.can someone explain to me what’s happening here thanks. I have attached a screen shot .

    Hi @Josh

Immediately after opening your trade, you’ll notice that your position will start at a loss equal to the spread at the time you placed your trade.

Say you wish to purchase 1 contract of the FTSE 100 (1 contract is valued at £10 per point), and the full spread between the bid and ask price is 1 point.*

The spread cost of this trade would be 1 contract x £10 per point (value of the contract) x 1 point spread = £10

Therefore, your position would open at a loss of £10 to pay off spread.
