Covid and the Economy

There has been an uptick in the number of cases in our area in the last few days. I don't think it is just local, people are just not willing to observe the lockdown as stringently anymore- the rules are being "bent" and will be tested until destruction. The second wave is on it's way,I'm afraid! Well at least what we have done gave the NHS time to prepare.

Facts are facts, doesn't matter if you don't like them.

The majority of those with positive antibody tests didn't even know they had had covid (were asymptomatic).

Covid kills very few people under the age of 60 with no pre-exiting medical conditions (around 1% of all covid deaths). (NHS data).

In England/Wales excess winter deaths from respiratory causes yearly average is around 35,000 while last year was 50,000. (ONS data). By far the majority were the elderly with pre-existing medical conditions.

We were told lockdown til the curve flattens, that was achieved some time ago, now it's continued lockdown to prevent a second spike but a second spike has to happen because of the lockdown.

Herd immunity must happen before covid is beaten, lockdown is just delaying that.

What will all these unemployed people do?

Will Donald J. Trump give them all jobs to go back to?  He is a genius after all, as are all the people who vote for him.  :P

not forgetting of course that both Labour and the Democrats wanted even harder lockdown even though there was never any evidence that lockdown would be effective.

Now that Germany and the US are easing lockdown infection rates are creeping back up again (the second spike) as was inevitable while Johnson wants to use the infection rate R to determine the speed of easing of lockdown which means lockdown forever.

I heard that the government already wants to start cutting pay for furloughed workers.  That doesn't tally with lockdown forever, unless the government wants to force millions of people out of their homes and starve?

'wants to', you don't quarantine the healthy you quarantine the sick and vulnerable, it's all been a waste of time. As they are finding in the US (second link in the post above) when you let people back out with no herd immunity the disease reappears as it will in the UK so everyone back indoors.

The only people who would benefit from locking down the healthy are the vaccine makers but Gates's new vaccine will take time, Sept at the earliest, letting people out and gaining herd immunity would just be a waste of money (for the vaccine makers).

Gates' vaccine, the one that can cause catastrophic side effects?  :D

After demanding the PM introduce the lockdown, large swathes of the commentariat are now demanding to know why they can’t break the lockdown to see relatives. How this country became a global power, I’m not sure. How it lost that power, though, is less of a mystery.

Happy for lock down to be eased so they can see elderly relatives (who are most at risk of dying). Not so keen for lockdown to be eased so they can go back to work..............

most of them can just as easily work from home but for many restaurants and small businesses though the shutters won't come down and so many people don't yet realise they're unemployed.

Through pillage, piracy, ruthless exploitation of native peoples, working men, women and children in the factories for 14 hours a day, and other activities that America and China are doing to this day :D

“The economic collapse is seen as the inevitable fallout of this illness. But it has nothing to do with Covid, only our reaction to it. We have never in history said we must close whole countries for a contagious disease.” Lionel Shriver on #Covid19.

"It has become clear that a hard lockdown does not protect old and frail people living in care homes—a population the lockdown was designed to protect.

Neither does it decrease mortality from COVID-19, which is evident when comparing the UK's experience with that of other European countries."

Stay indoors til the curve flattens, that will save you.

No wait, stay indoors til we make an app, that will save you.

No wait, stay indoors til we make a vaccine, that will save you.

You know what, just stay indoors.

LISTEN | Lord Sumption telling it like it is on coronavirus.

"The under-60s have virtually no risk of dying from this disease - the policy should be: anyone under 65, continue with your normal life, and those over 65 can make their own choices about the level of risk to live with."

Stats starting to come through on what the NHS have been missing since the start of lockdown.

"Furthermore, you should also consider the impact of a damaged economy, less taxes & thus less funding for NHS. Add in all the undiagnosed cancers & tumours due to the lockdown. Normal monthly UK cancer diagnosis 30K, now 5K. If 50% die due to late diagnosis that's 12.5K per month"

Office of National Statistics graph on the expected slide in UK GDP if we continue with this moronic lockdown policy which is an overreaction to the covid virus.

Of deaths caused by the virus just 0.13% were healthy under 40 year olds and just 1% were healthy under 60 year olds. (see posts above)

The total number of excess winter deaths is running just above the 5 year rolling average and as per every year the far majority are the elderly with serious pre-existing medical conditions.

The Nightingale hospitals are being closed down, the NHS was never short of ICU capacity.

Politicians and commentators need to admit they were wrong and allow life to return to normal.

as Sumption points out  "... deaths of people under 50 is so tiny that the Office of National Statistics isn’t even able to show it on their colourful charts. Yet it is people who are fit and under 65 who are being asked to sacrifice not just their liberty but their jobs their businesses"

Covid 19 being the dominant strain this season meaning that if you have had a cold or flu this winter then you've probably already had it.

Many small and medium sized business leaders have said they intend to lay off staff as soon as the furlough payments stop. Many people are already unemployed they just don't know it yet.

Of the NHS recorded deaths from covid just 0.01% were healthy children. Just 0.1% were healthy under 40 year olds and just 1% were healthy under 60 year olds.

Many more will die because of the lockdown than be saved by it because of undiagnosed diseases and the effects of the economic disaster ahead.

"Wave of COVID-19 bankruptcies poses next threat to US economy ... AFP Many firms now bleeding cash are in for a tough ride until the economy fully rebounds, which likely will come only after a vaccine is developed and broadly employed"

https://www.afp.com/en/news/3954/wave-covid-19-bankruptcies-poses-next-threat-us-economy-doc-1ri6jz2

Barstool’s Dave Portnoy goes on a rant fighting back against COVID lockdowns: “I would rather die of corona ... or take my chances ... I don’t want to start over ... There are no great options but you can’t just decimate the entire economy.”

Wait for the curve to flatten, no wait for the tracking app, no wait for a vaccine. Scientists with their toy 'models' and the politicians who listen to them do not have a clue what is going on.

Forget 'models' you don't need them when there is a ton of empirical evidence out there already.

Covid is a bad flu affecting mostly those over 60 with serious pre-existing medical conditions. There is no evidence that total lockdown would ever work and it hasn't. The WHO states you only need to wear a mask if you are caring for the infected.
