This happened to me multiple times too - and YES I selected good till cancelled, but it doesn't make a difference if your order is at the bottom.

I would say that considering it happens so much, it does seem very scammy - who on earth is actually buying a single share? There would be no reason to do this unless it were a way to scam extra fees imo. Whether it's IG or whoever is above them, this stinks.

Why not simply offer a feature to fill all or don't fill at all?

    Hi @mfdoom420,

If you select Market order the expiry will change to Fill or Kill:

The order will be filled fully, or killed.

Compared to any other broker this fee is absolutely ridiculous , especially for small accounts. Is there any page where the fees are stated in detail?

    Hi @sortaeduard,

    Thank you for your post.

You can find our charges for UK Share trading accounts here:
    https://www.ig.com/uk/investments/share-dealing/costs-fees

The rebates on commission applies when you traded 3 times or more in the previous calendar. If you traded 3 times in July then your commission will be the ones in the second columns.

I am wanting to find out if IG Markets will margin call or stop you out of a position if you fall below the margin maintenance?

I have been FX trading on the demo account for 3 odd months and hasn't happened yet so unsure of the demo is a true simulation of live CFD trading?

    Hi @Snorky,

The Margin call rules should apply to the Demo account.

It is your responsibility to keep an eye on the margin requirement as we might not be able to reach out if a market drastically change.

@ArvinIG Thankyou so much for taking the time to reply! I’ve been so confused

ok - but as I’ve completed the W-8BEN form then I assume there is no tax difference between the two?

Key issue if I understand, is I open myself up to exchange fees as I buy/sell back to AUD from USD?

    tom

    Hi @TomLeonard20,

    No worries.

Yes, the main difference would be the AUD/USD conversion for each transaction and trading hours.

If you have a Share dealing account you can change your account settings to Multi currency account you can hold USD on your account. Note that the commission will change then:

    Hi

The IG ETG screener doesn't show any ETFs when I click the green 'ISA eligible' button but there seem to be be plenty available once I login to my account. However the display there is not very readable.

Does anyone know why the screener is not working?

    Thanks!

    sg

    Hi @sangupt,

    Thank you for your post.

Effectively the ETF screener does not return any result when filtering with ISA filter.

Thank you for your feedback. We forward your query to the relevant department to be fixed.

Newbie here and have given up googling after an hour in the hope this community can help. I’m currently a tax resident in Australia and have recently dipped my toe in ETFs (purchasing IVV.P). What is confusing is the difference between IVV.P and IVV.AX - is it simply as basic as the currency? Or are there tax differences I.e is one Australian Domiciled and other not ( asking due to need to fill out W8BEN form).

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    HI @TomLeonard20,

Effectively, there would be a difference in tax as you will need to complete a W-8BEN form to trade IVV.P as it's listed in the US as opposed to IVV.AX listed in Australia.

They will have different trading hours as well.

Note that trading in USD you may need to convert your local currency back and forth.

arvin, i appreciate your very supportive reply.  ive done some stocks portfolio filling on IB now with their live account but im a bit bruised and battered as a result :|

i dont give up easily so the more i learn from wherever, the more likely it is that i could do something at IG with the share dealing account despite lack of a demo option beforehand. good to know IG protects new users - they are very busy like that at IB but do not stop to think that using language that a newbie can understand might just be the smartest way to help.. they have a glossary for general terminology but even with google searching the site its difficult to get help with what site specific stuff means.. is IG thinking about what it actually is like for beginners to navigate the site too? best way to get this kind of perspective is to sit beside someone trying to do just that and see what kind of questions they ask at each step of the way. it seem like the only aim at IB is to make sure the help especially their videos makes sense to those that already know the answers. if IG can do better than that it might boost your ratings in reviews, etc. but i already rather think it is doing better.. heres an example of trouble with IB; in their (my) client portal, column header names like 'avg price' and 'cost basis' do not have any direct way (like a windows ? icon) to get an 'in a nutshell' explanation of what the header means. also there is no way to sort columns of numbers/ names according to different criteria. i cannot sort positions (stocks held) by exchange bought at, so all the nyse and lse and nasdaq are grouped together so its easy at a glance to see which figures are in gbp and which are usd. how does this compare with IG layout? (if i had tried CFDs on here i would know more on this, sure..).

sorry if this rant is a bit heavy going :D i will go and try to repeat some of it at IB next.. if i can get to the right site map link to reach community there.. if we want a good example of how to do it right then simplywallstreet is it for me - albeit not a broker platform, but the resources on there are huge and very thoughtfully put together and they treat free trial users with respect. subscription cost is not insanely high either, like many other similar sites. hope ive contributed something here that will in some way or other help others in the long run. thanks again for your help. will stick around as long as my CFD demo account login doesnt expire. but in any event i have not closed my mind to the IG share dealing account for alternative portfolio use, in due course :)

    Hi @blackarrow,

    Thank you for your post.

I think that the IG Academy is a good way to start. It has courses for beginners to advanced traders.
You can access the IG Academy with your demo account no need to have a live account.
    image.png

On the IG website you can use the search function :image.png
    image.png

It will find the articles containing the key words your are looking for.

I think it is the best way to find relevant pages on the websites.

In regards to explanation on the platform it is always a work in progress, but you can find information but clicking on the 'i' icon on the platform few examples:
    image.png

All indicators have a small description:

When placing a stop you also have some description

can anyone please explain why my account is being debited for dividend adjustments? From what I've read spread betting accounts shouldn't be 'materially impacted' but I'm regularly being hit with losses.

    Hi @Beckybeech,

    Thank you for your post.

Dividend Adjustment will also affect Spread Betting accounts.

If you have an open position through a dividend adjustment, we’ll ensure that there is no material impact on you by either crediting or debiting your ledger with the exact amount you have incurred as additional running loss/profit due to the dividend adjustment.

You can find further details here.

    who is the custodian?

    Hi @ncalvelo,

For Share trading accounts, IG operates a direct custody model. This means shares purchased through IG will be held by Citi as the legal owner, with IG as the beneficial owner.

The client is the ultimate beneficial owner, therefore the additional shares were received by Citi for our aggregated holding for all clients in accordance to the terms, IG then booked the shares on each client's account.

I hope that it helps !

thanks arvin for your help. i think IG should look at what some of the competition are doing with their demo or free trial accounts which do simulate share dealing.  some work it so you keep access to demo whilst signed up for live account. for a beginner learning by doing is the best way but not by making expensive mistakes dont you think? which is the risk here at IG. sure its good to have demo for CFDs etc as that is the really risky stuff. also the most lucrative for the platforms though i guess?  hence the over emphasis on the CFDs and spread betting from the get-go on many of the platforms.

if IG and many other platforms do need that particular revenue stream more than any other, then starting with demo share dealing and a demo for everything else your beginner share dealers might become confident enough to go down the platforms CFD route eventually.  otherwise a business model to make as much as possible out of those with little or no knowledge or experience on them tricky instruments is not, in the long run, going to be a good look if anything blows up in the news, dont you think?

thanks again for your input, it helps me to search better to get the big picture. thats what im doing with interactive brokers - trying to find answers on their pages is hard but google has it all pinned down.  sites generally may have hopeless search tools but as we know; google will sort it all out for you in a site specific way.  if that is the thing interactive brokers gets criticised for most then their competitors incl IG, need to make sure they are no worse than IB with everything else that they do do right.  shame mydemo here may be going nowhere if i get confident with IB in the fullness of time.. sorry, im not what you need i guess.

    Hi @blackarrow,

I will forward your feedback to the relevant department in regards to having Share Dealing Demo servers.

I understand your point. We do have products warnings on our website clearly stating that leverage products are risky.
To open a CFD account , you will need to complete a questionnaire to assess your experience in trading. If you fail that questionnaire we wouldn't give you access to a CFD account to avoid exposing you to high risk products.

I don't know much of IB's offers, effectively you can compare both.

We do have the IG Academy, free educational content on trading if you are after some courses before starting to trade.

Hi. I am a little bit confused about the method used to do the GME stock split.

I do received an email from IG regarding the GME 4:1 stock split that creates more confusion than clarifies the things. There it is no reference that the split it is created through a dividend instead of a regular stock split.

My question it is if the Stock split it was created using the:

    a) Forward stock split, function code FC-02, ISO event code SPLF

    or

    b) Dividend stock split, function code FC-06, ISO event code DVSE

It is a huge difference between this two ways of doing the stock split and there it is no way to check how my new shares was created after the 4:1 split.

I will appreciate some clarification regarding this subject from the IG staff.

    Best regards.

    GME_Stock_Dividend_Split.PNG

    Hi @acornopolis,

We are unable to ascertain how the company processed this event, but from IG's end we mirrored the custodian and it seems they processed this as a stock split.

The client would have an extra 3 shares for each one held before Ex-date and the new market (after Ex date) price would be feeding into the give the client’s P/L.

We won't know how the company recorded it.

    Hi @blackarrow,

    Thank you for your post.

Our Demo accounts are CFD accounts using leverage and margin. Our Demo servers and Live servers are separated. We do not have Share Trading demo account as share trading works with Direct order to the market.

You are looking for an account to hold your shares, you can find more information on share dealing accounts here:

When is IG going to implement stop losses on Share Trading accounts?  It doesn't seem to be an issue for platforms that use Citibank as the underlying broker.  I understand the issue with the current design of the platform but a possible option could be a CONTRA equity account.  If a buy/sell is executed that action could then call/trigger a separate action to create a credit/debit adjustment effectively and once closed a call/trigger would then do the reverse and balance the CONTRA account back to nil.

    Hi @angela2v,
