  1. yes, by lowering the contract/bet size. It will depend on which country you are trading from and which market, say you are in the UK trading ftse, the regulator has made the min margin requirement 5% which is the equivalent of max leverage of 20:1, as you say the margin is auto calc'd so on the platform fill in a order of deal ticket, adjust the £/point size up and down and look how the amount of margin required changes (amount you must have in your account to fund the trade). note that the mt4 platform allows a much lower minimum bet size than the online platform but can't trade individual stocks.
  2. Just to update this chart;
  3. Tradingview use broker charts (Oanda) for their free service, not sure about the pay for service.
  4. something like Yahoo Finance will give you exchange based charts of individual exchange listed companies. https://finance.yahoo.com/
  5. based on the underlying yes but they will be what the liquidity provider is willing to provide so on the Level 2 data that comes with the DMA platform you will see the volume available at the best price (buy or sell) then the volume available at the next best price and so on down/up. Also, though the share price and the cfd price are both based on the underlying they are 2 different markets so the price won't necessarily be the same for both just as price is often different for the same shares or contracts on different exchanges.
  6. Using data from Sunday (rather than Friday) for the pivots as it was a reasonable sized candle and the market seems to be respecting the levels. Dow sitting atop the pivot and looks to have it well in control. Dax powered straight up to R1 on the London open, the next target is Friday's high and daily chart resistance level 11989 (orange) then round number and R2 12008.
  7. no, it means prices available direct from the liquidity providers rather than being channeled through IG, you can't buy or sell any other way unless you are an institution (liquidity provider) with a seat on the exchange.
  8. both, you can use the dma with a share dealing account or with a cfd account.
  9. sorry forgot, no the data is from IG and is the same as on the IG online and mt4 platforms. You can get exchange data (for a small monthly fee) for IG's DMA platform.
  10. Hi, may have been an issue trying to activate on a weekend with markets closed, also, check the feeds from IG, 'File' > 'Open an account' and you should see a pop up box showing the demo and live feeds are active. If still a problem re-post here.
  11. Hi, leverage is the amount of margin used, look through the IG Academy (need to be logged in) for more. If you are using all your available margin for a trade you are using all available leverage. https://www.ig.com/uk/ig-academy/orders-execution-and-leverage/what-is-leverage The deal ticket is buying 'at market' (instant execution) while the order ticket is for placing a pending order in the market to be activated when a specified price is reached.
  12. If you making at least 4 trades (2 round turns) a month then try PRT, there are no set figures and is discretionary as to whether IG will charge a fee but they will warn you in advance if they consider your amount of activity is not enough to warrant the free service.
  13. Has the issue been resolved, seems to be working here (see pic) and no issues are reported on the status page. https://status.ig.com/
  14. A drop on the hour trading on Sunday but should be an interesting day as price levels still at the recent range highs and a reversal bar on the S&P weekly. This week sees US PMIs tues, Cad rate statement wed, and US Non Farm Payroll on Friday, also on Friday is Fed chair Powell's economic outlook speech.
  15. Indices rising after gapping down on Sunday, USD and Bonds flat, Gold up Oil down. Chart China 50. Ger and UK PMIs, US and Cad bank holiday today.
  16. Hi, was the purchase using a share dealing account or spread bet/cfd, does balance refer to number of shares or account balance, is that Hansa Biochem or one of the other ones?
  17. Hi, the weekend market closes at 10:40pm Sunday (UK time), any open positions are automatically transferred onto the normal weekday market which opens at 11pm Sunday.
  18. Though the cfd market is based on the underlying price they are two different markets, so long as IG can find enough liquidity in the cfd market to be able to match buyer to seller you will get your fill.
  19. HI, yes the cfd market is far larger than the underlying market so you are far more likely to get filled.
  20. Hi, you will usually see this notice when IG is closing the market and it only remains on the platform for those already in to be able to exit. It mainly occurs when there is not enough trading through put to justify keeping it on the platform or if the company has dropped below the market capital size minimum for IG listing. They are often AIM companies in decline so I was wondering if those types of stocks were what your trading room specialised in and what broker the others are using? An alternative to IG's main cfd platform you might what to consider is the Direct Market Access (DMA) platform. https://www.ig.com/uk/l2-trading-platform
  21. Hi, just to point out IG shuts down every Friday around 10pm UK time for site maintenance and updates for a few hours, usually back up by 2am Saturday and the first market to re-open is crypto at 4am Saturday.

  23. Why would that be? Check through the posts above, the morning direction calls have been accurate and the targets have been hit and not used any of the 'stuff' some seem to think should be in the Academy as though it was an essential prerequisite to trading. Does time scale or which indicators you use actually matter, seems more important to develope the skill to read multi time frame chart structure and understanding what the candles are saying than anything else. Price is always just looking for support or resistance, that's what a market is.
  24. Out of hours breakout higher of the month long range, can the US market open push it higher?
