no, it means prices available direct from the liquidity providers rather than being channeled through IG, you can't buy or sell any other way unless you are an institution (liquidity provider) with a seat on the exchange.

based on the underlying yes but they will be what the liquidity provider is willing to provide so on the Level 2 data that comes with the DMA platform you will see the volume available at the best price (buy or sell) then the volume available at the next best price and so on down/up.

Also, though the share price and the cfd price are both based on the underlying they are 2 different markets so the price won't necessarily be the same for both just as price is often different for the same shares or contracts on different exchanges.

  2. Using data from Sunday (rather than Friday) for the pivots as it was a reasonable sized candle and the market seems to be respecting the levels. Dow sitting atop the pivot and looks to have it well in control. Dax powered straight up to R1 on the London open, the next target is Friday's high and daily chart resistance level 11989 (orange) then round number and R2 12008.

    Hi all,

I'm having trouble placing trade on IG MT4. I recently applied for a IG MT4 real account and when I tried to start a new trade, the trade window doesn't show any symbols/pairs for me to trade, and all buttons are greyed out like the attached photo shows.

Anyone can point me to the right solution? Thank you!

Hi, may have been an issue trying to activate on a weekend with markets closed, also, check the feeds from IG, 'File' > 'Open an account' and you should see a pop up box showing the demo and live feeds are active.

If still a problem re-post here.

Hi guys. I've got some really basic questions which, after some quick searching, I haven't found the answer to. Every where it's explained seems to presuppose prior or additional knowledge that I'm missing, so please bare with me as I ask really simple questions, or point me to a really, really, take-nothing-for-granted explanation!

I've learned the basics of risk and money management, analysis, and have a simple system I'd like to test in a demo account.
Now it's time to figure out the mechanics of placing trades and punching in the right numbers.
I'm using IG's Workspace. I've started with 9,059 GBP. Now, let's say that I want to place a trade, on, say, USD/JPY and "Buy" at x10 leverage, with a stop loss of 1% my account (90GBP). Alright, let's figure this out:

    Firstly, I see three options:
    Deal, Order, Alert.

"Deal" seems to be what I want, for placing a regular trade. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Under the "Deal" tab, I've got three options: Size, Stop, and Limit.
For the yen, Size is given in terms of "contracts," where 1 contract = 1000 yen per point. Okay, so I guess I can buy a 10,000 yen position which is equal to 10 points. Am I correct so far?

Now, is this position leveraged? What leverage am I using, and where is that displayed? Is that leverage factored into this price? Also, how do I know how much I am paying for the contract in GBP?  Also, how much is "1 point" on the chart? How can I confirm that I have the right values before placing a trade?

I've watched this video, and it explains none of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtodgGPczxU&list=PLOGjoJXp0cmpVNwvNbeAWnH_nu2RaLv4q&index=2

    What am I missing?

Hi, leverage is the amount of margin used, look through the IG Academy (need to be logged in) for more. If you are using all your available margin for a trade you are using all available leverage.

    https://www.ig.com/uk/ig-academy/orders-execution-and-leverage/what-is-leverage

The deal ticket is buying 'at market' (instant execution) while the order ticket is for placing a pending order in the market to be activated when a specified price is reached.

Does Pro real time provide chart of stocks CFD's or underlying stocks directly from the stock exchange?

IG also asks us to take atleast four trades a month to avail pro real time chart for free of cost, so is there any minimum quantity or volume in those four trades also required?

    Your valuable suggestions are welcome.

If you making at least 4 trades (2 round turns) a month then try PRT, there are no set figures and is discretionary as to whether IG will charge a fee but they will warn you in advance if they consider your amount of activity is not enough to warrant the free service.

    Hi,

I am not able to see any of the Australian shares, if I try to find a company using either the name or ticker, it does not return any results.

Could someone please help with this issue? Thanks in advance.

  7. A drop on the hour trading on Sunday but should be an interesting day as price levels still at the recent range highs and a reversal bar on the S&P weekly. This week sees US PMIs tues, Cad rate statement wed,  and US Non Farm Payroll on Friday, also on Friday is Fed chair Powell's economic outlook speech.

I purchased this stock but my balance is showing as zero when I want to trade when will the stock be available again?

    Thanks

Hi, was the purchase using a share dealing account or spread bet/cfd, does balance refer to number of shares or account balance, is that Hansa Biochem or one of the other ones?

    even in low volume stocks?

Though the cfd market is based on the underlying price they are two different markets, so long as IG can find enough  liquidity in the cfd market to be able to match buyer to seller you will get your fill.

hello,m new to IG,just want to know about bid & offer quantity in IG cfds for low volume stocks..Is it exactly same quantity as of underlying stock or u can trade any quantity depending on ur account balance........for example i want to buy 1000 shares of a cfd in IG,but actual no. of seller in underlyng stock is only 50...ll my order get filled if i have sufficient fund or something else?

HI, yes the cfd market is far larger than the underlying market so you are far more likely to get filled.

So I keep getting this almost everyday (Closing only: Market unavailable to open)! Can anyone explain why does this keep happening ? I'm already thinking about switching to another trading platform as this situation is extremely annoying , in my trading room I am the only one who cannot trade a half of the positions because of this error

Hi, you will usually see this notice when IG is closing the market and it only remains on the platform for those already in to be able to exit. It mainly occurs when there is not enough trading through put to justify keeping it on the platform or if the company has dropped below the market capital size minimum for IG listing. They are often AIM companies in decline so I was wondering if those types of stocks were what your trading room specialised in and what broker the others are using? An alternative to IG's main cfd platform you might what to consider is the Direct Market Access (DMA) platform.

    Hi all,

I've just logged in to find my ISA account balance at £0.00. Upon opening the trading platform my positions appear to be intact but I am not able to see any balance/profit amounts across the top of the screen. No logs of withdrawals on my account (thankfully) either. Does anyone know that is going on?

Please see the attached image for an example.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Grant2600,

I did a little browse on email and I think there must be something to do with the trading hours change, I hope it is that.

Hi, just to point out IG shuts down every Friday around 10pm UK time for site maintenance and updates for a few hours, usually back up by 2am Saturday and the first market to re-open is crypto at 4am Saturday.

  14. Why would that be? Check through the posts above, the morning direction calls have been accurate and the targets have been hit and not used any of the 'stuff' some seem to think should be in the Academy as though it was an essential prerequisite to trading. Does time scale or which indicators you use actually matter, seems more important to develope the skill to read multi time frame chart structure and understanding what the candles are saying than anything else. Price is always just looking for support or resistance, that's what a market is.

An 'academy' that doesn't even cover half of technical analysis (no mention of volume or Fibos) never mind regression to the mean, normal distributions, standard deviations, diversification, Elliot Wave and all the other stuff.

Is any of this stuff actually important?

  16. Comparison between US and Japan bond and indices markets. 30 year treasury yield and the S&P dividend yield inverting, This yield inversion made the headlines on Wednesday, the graph below emphasises again the long term change in bond markets since the 1980's and the cnbc article linked below admits this latest development could be bullish for stocks as investors seek yield.

The next chart down shows the Japan dividend yield inversion with the 10 year bond yield back in 2007 and increasing ever since as the bond yields head negative, the initial inversion looks to have sparked a rally in stock market. In the longer term this may well be the graph of the future of US and European bond and dividend yields, a new normal.

The 3rd chart below shows the current US 2's and 10's and the 3 month and 30 year bond yield inversions.

How do I check this from my mobile phone ,I'm not trading from a pc ,also I traded 2 currency pairs with 0.05 and 0.01 and they worked so I doubt it's my connection,I'm only having trouble opening 0.10 positions with indicies specifically the spx500 and nas100

not sure, your currency trades must have been on demo as the live account only goes as low as 0.1 for both currencies and indices so I still think you need to look at the live feed connection.
