ok, you should be able to open a cfd account as well as your share dealing account though it takes time because of the additional paper work you need to supply.

Maybe @CharlotteIG can pass a message on to IG Australia for you?

    Thanks @Caseynotes :)

    Hey,

When you open a CFD account sometimes additional information is needed before we can open it. From what I can see it looks like your CFD account was declined after 45 days. Could you kindly attempt to open another CFD account from the MyIG page. I will contact someone in our AUS office to reach out to you and assist you with opening one up if you can't open it from MyIG.

    All the best.

Please add this special feature, well it is not really a feature it should already be available. Please allow sorting by any heading available in the platform.

    It just makes sense.

    Thank you.

Please  provide an update on when we would be able to use this feature. Currently it is so disadvantageous on ourselves for not having this feature.

This feature is desperately needed! Any update on the development of this?!?!

    Hey all,

You're right with most markets this should be a simple feature however shares are slightly harder to sort by % change. What I can check is if we can implement for all markets whist working on shares.

Sorry for the delay on this project.

Charlotte: There's commentary doing the rounds on Twitter that IG is going to raise the margin on a whole range of stock SBs to 100%?  Is this true?  I have received no notice to this effect.

Here is the information you need regarding the stocks we've set to closings only on leverage:

We constantly review the products we offer in line with client demand. We have reviewed associated returns across our 12,000 leveraged share markets and decided to withdraw around 900 small-cap shares for spread betting and CFD accounts. These markets will continue to be available for share dealing – find out how to open a share dealing account below.

The list of affected shares that will be withdrawn from spread betting and CFD accounts are listed in this PDF. Please read on for details about the process, but in summary:

1.We are increasing margins so that all positions on these shares will have a margin requirement of 100% at 3pm on Friday 26 February

2.Please close positions by Monday 29 March 2021, from which point we will start to close any remaining open positions

3.You will still be able to buy the majority of shares outright using our share dealing service

    What happens next?

For a small subset of the affected markets (listed as ‘set 1’ in the PDF), margin requirements are already at 100%. For the remaining markets (listed as ‘set 2’ in the PDF), margin requirements will increase to 100% from 3pm (UK time) on Friday 26 February.

You have until Monday 29 March 2021 to close your open positions on affected markets, from which point we will start to close any positions still open. Positions will be closed as soon as practical from this point, while ensuring that all reasonable steps are taken to obtain the best results for our clients. This action is taken in accordance with Term 28(3) of the latest version of the applicable customer agreement governing your account(s) with IG.

We encourage you to review your exposure and consider how best to manage your position(s). Should you wish to maintain your existing position(s) with IG in the short term, please ensure that you have enough money on your account(s) to cover the new margin requirements.

We understand that you may need time to decide what to do, or to seek alternative exposure. Nonetheless, we urge you to close your position(s) before Monday 29 March to ensure that you have discretion over the closure.

Can I invest in these markets via share dealing?

Yes, most of them will remain available via share dealing. While you won’t be able to transfer existing leveraged position(s) from a spread betting or CFD account to an IG share dealing account, you can use an IG share dealing account to buy the majority of affected shares outright.

To add a share dealing account if you don’t already have one, log in to My IG and click ‘add account’, then ‘share dealing’ – or simply click the button below.

    Hey guys,

I have been doing some spread betting over the last few years but don't have a professional investors account. Ups and downs however made some good profits over the last 12 months. I've made one risky investment recently and it went wrong. I had some guarantees (about £6k) on the account which were not enough to cover the losses on that day (about £7k) and I had no stop loss in place.  I've requested the available funds to be withdrawn before market opened to limit exposure and potentially trigger the margin calls a bit earlier on the day when I lost the money. I was also hoping that as a non-professional account I would get negative balance protection. However that wasn't the case. IG  cancelled the withdrawal request and used the money to offset the losses and had no explanation fo what happened on that day. My spread betting account is now having 0 balance as of today.

I am not moaning about the losses or decisions made. I like making risks every now and then. Just want to make sure if what IG did was legitimate. Never had a call or an email from them to explain what happened on that day. And also no explanations on the negative balance protections.

Please advise if anyone had a similar experience.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for your post.

You can't withdraw most of your funds before market open and when the market opens and moves against you ask IG to cover all of the losses incurred by those positions. That's taking advantage of the debt coverage brokers take on for retail clients.

Reversing your withdrawal is legitimate and allowed in this situation.

Any losses that weren't covered by your reversed withdrawal we will cover (to bring your account out of a negative balance and back to £0). You will be able to see how much IG covered/lost by checking your history. It will be called 'account adjustment'.

    Hello IG,

I tried applying for a CFD Live account and got this:

    image.png.d8102d03ded49210c1195d4e9d5a8e6b.png

I do have the means to deposit at least the minimum amount of $5000 as I am currently employed and I do have other savings and investments to cover it. I'm confused about the income if it is monthly or yearly rate. I also enrolled in a course that teaches me how to trade CFDs though this course does not have a certification so I'm not sure if it is included in the formal CFD courses. I also sent an email to helpdesk.en@ig.com and have not heard from them yet. I did pass the knowledge questionnaires however this was after submitting my application, I didn't know where I can find the questionnaires beforehand.

Is it possible for me to review my application? Or what will be needed from me to prove that I am capable of handling a Live account? Or how long will it take for me to re-apply again for a Live account?

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your post.

Unless your earnings or savings change we will not be able to open the account. Our compliance team have barriers of earnings and savings in place that don't change. If your earnings or savings change please let us know as we can update your application. Please note, we may ask for proof of the financial change.

With regards to the minimum deposit amount, that has recently increased but if does get reviewed. I've passed on the feedback regarding how high it is.

I got a notification about 2 months ago from IG saying the regulator is clamping down.

Can someone let me know why I could sell my position  in Ether but a few days later i couldn't buy it back

On 6 January we restricted UK retail clients from increasing their exposure to cryptocurrencies, in accordance with the ban imposed by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on the sale of crypto derivatives. We have now reached our internal product limit for exposure to cryptocurrencies, and as a result will be removing cryptocurrencies from our offering to UK retail clients. Ahead of this, we will also be increasing margin requirements.

Please ensure that you close all your open spread bet and/or CFD positions on cryptocurrencies by no later than 3pm on Wednesday 24 March 2021, from which point we will start to close any positions still open based on our prevailing bid/ask prices. This action is taken in accordance with Term 28(3) of the latest version of the applicable customer agreement governing your account(s) with IG.

In addition, from 3pm on Monday 22 February we will be increasing margin requirements for existing positions on cryptocurrencies to 100%. Markets affected are as follows:

    ■Bitcoin

    ■Bitcoin cash

    ■Bitcoin cash/Bitcoin

    ■Crypto 10 index

    ■EOS

    ■Ether

    ■Ether/bitcoin

    ■Litecoin

So typical ''of-course-you-will-die-poor'' behavior

Could somebody PLEASE at least help, write or link the list with the 1100 assets that we're not allowed to trade anymore?

    Thanks in advance

    Hey,

As soon as I get a full list I will post it in this forum. As mentioned I will be passing all the feedback you're giving to senior members of staff in hope that if does shape the decisions we're making.

    Hey,

Please note the scheme is only for certain countries but Australia is one of them. The scheme is only for leveraged trades so if you only have a share trading account you will not be able to find it. You can open a CFD account then you will find the option to refer friends by selecting settings> Refer a friend on the MyIG page.

Please check the terms and conditions before referring friends, as mentioned it only applies to leveraged trading so your friends will have to have a leveraged account and trade there.

  15. Hey all,

Please note this is a business decision but want to apologise for any inconvenience or upset it causes.

IG and the wider financial markets have seen unprecedented demand for trading from retail clients. We constantly review the products we offer particularly as there are additional operational hurdles associated with margin intensive asset classes. More information on this will be released this week.

Hi. Right now (Pre market) I cannot place a stop loss order, only a limit order. Is that normal?

    Hey,

In the pre market we do turn off stop loss orders. The reason is because stop loss orders mean we can execute your trade at the price you select or worse. Where there's less liquidity in the pre market it means that you could get your order filled much further away than the current market price.

@CharlotteIG can you please explain. Why divident adjustments does not impact futures contract.. e.g. FTSE100 future long owners did not receive adjustment for todays ex-div on GSK, RDS, BP etc.. but DFB FTSE 100 long did.

Is it because FTSE 100 DFB will be adjusted down but Futures is not? In that case what will happen at the time of futures expiry date and roll over? All these is taken account at the time so ensure alignment of FTSE 100 DFB and futures?

    Hey,

With futures contracts dividends is already adjusted in whereas dailys have dividends added back in so when ex div dates arise we will adjust them on that date.

This video may help understand the DFB:

The futures contract however subtracts the dividends from it's price before it's open for trading.

    I hope this helps.
