Right folks, probably close to my Posting Limit for today.

    Her'es an update I wasn't aware of.

The Spread can change by the Tick at anytime without notice.

Trading the Instrument above.  I'm pretty certain I started with a 5pt spread.  then it went to £15, then to £25.  I didn't even notice till it went to £25 and got stopped out twice..........

What a **** joke and a con this platform is.  How can you justify going from £5 to £25 without notice??

When you are trading on shares there is a chance of a variable spread. Any IG spread is a fixed percentage wrapped around this underlying market. Spreads are variable because this is a free and open market where buy and sell prices are dictated by those who are willing to buy and sell at that specific value. This is not a feature of IG or our platform, but rather the underlying global market. If you're a mulit-million dollar hedge fund manager in the US or a retail trader buying shares via IG in the UK, both would be subject to such an event.

We have a wealth of information and education on trading available on IG. Please make sure you are fully aware of how the underlying market works and any risk/reward which comes with leveraged trading. It may be worth checking out our Academy area here (and on mobile) https://www.ig.com/uk/learn-to-trade/ig-academy

  2. Hi all - just a note that we've created a specific bitcoin halving events page which you can see here. This will likely be more for clients who are new to trading bitcoin with IG, or are newly interested in the bitcoin halving event which is likely to take place in May 2020.

To make sure we've not been left out we have our own BTC log scale showing the cryptocurrency price over the last couple of halving events. ;) Over the next 18 months or so we will be putting out a number of interviews, videos, podcasts, and content pieces which may be more relevant to those on Community. I'll make sure to update you all.

Sounds like a stalling tactic JamesIG, the ISA and Share Dealing sites are rough, old and not fun to use.  You need to get it transferred in the same stye as the SB account.  I do wonder if there is anything happening at all on the ISA/Share dealing side given that its such a small part of the IG Business?

In the past we have given more accurate dates, however as with all development road maps as the strategic direction of the company changes (due to a change in regulation, higher priority given to new legal obligations etc), delivery dates also change. Over the last few years due to significant changes in global regulation we unfortunately have had to push back the original delivery date of things such as DRIP and the new share dealing platform.

It is something we are working on, and something we shall be communicating to all clients in due course. I appreciate this isn't as accurate an answer as you were hoping for. I use the IG share dealing platform personally as well, so believe me when I say I agree with your interest in seeing the update.

@PandaFace If I want to scalp oil during the day, but don't intend to have the position open at end of the day, is it better to use spot than futures because of the spread?  Or does it all equal-out somehow?

Do futures have wider spreads than spots on all brokers, or is this an IG quirk?

It would be financially advantageous to use spot in this instance as the spreads are smaller. You'll generally find that the further out you go the larger the spreads irrespective of the broker as the market is less liquid. With IG we also incorporate funding into those longer dated futures as you're borrowing funds to maintain the position for a longer time period as well.

  5. Make sure your MT4 platform is up to date

From July 1st, 2019, MetaQuotes (the company behind MT4) will end support for all MetaTrader 4 platform components below 1170. Old terminal versions will not be able to connect to broker trading servers, while servers running under old versions will no longer receive updates. You need to make sure your build is version 1170 or above which was originally released on December 20th 2018.

How to check your MT4 build version

If you are unsure if you are affected you can check this by going to the MT4 platform and then going to ‘Help’ and selecting ‘About’. On the bottom left you will see which ‘Build’ version you have and the date the software was published.

How to upgrade your version of MT4

Run MT4 as administrator by right-clicking on your desktop icon, and click “Run as administrator”. Then when MT4 is opened, you will be prompted to complete a LiveUpdate. If you are looking to update your mobile application simply update the app as you would with any other app.

    Any question?

    Just ask :)

The share I am looking at is Correvio Pharma Corporation

Just had a look at this one and can see the MCap is $85m which is unfortunately short of our 250m requirement for American equities (i.e. is is too illiquid and has a small market cap to offer on leverage trading accounts).

You can however own this stock outright via a share dealing account.

  7. I imagine this was because you placed a limit day order which is only good until the end of the day (i.e. the underlying exchange will delete it). Please either place a limit GTC (good till cancel) or an RSP quote today. Hope this clarifies - if you'd like more info please give us a call as I wouldn't want to go into any more detail about your account specifically on  a public forum.

  8. Hi folks - I'm sorry to report that Google have released a new version of Chrome which does not work with the IG Trading Android app. Web pages in the app including Charts, Market data, account opening form, appropriateness quiz etc fail to load. This was due to a roll out from Chrome and there was no forewarning for us on our side to test this.

We are working on a fix to get around the problem with this new version of Chrome, and hope to have it live by Monday. There is a chance Google will have reverted the rollout of this new Chrome by then too - the best way to keep updated is to check https://status.ig.com/ which will update with more information as it becomes avaliable, and any rollouts.

  9. Just had a look at the terms and conditions on the email and it looks to state (under section 5) "Promotion commences 29/04/2019 and closes on 11/06/2019. The winning entry will be selected at random from those submitted through the survey. The draw will take place at Investment Trends’ Head Office, on 14/06/2019 at 2:30pm (EST)."

I imagine everyone will be notified after this date. Hope this helps.

  10. Hey - when we take the most liquid front month contracts this doesn't necessarily mean this month and next. As you can see from the volumes below, in the case of Soybeans this relates to Jul and Nov. The open interest and also volume are significantly higher in these contracts than in others, and therefore we're far more likely to get a good price when dealing in size for our clients. I hope this clarifies.
