  1. We're not offering trade analytics on MT4, just CFD, FSB and forex.

The project manager informed me of some options they're looking into going forward. Do keep in mind that these are not definite but I wanted to share the future options they're considering:

    • Ability to tag individual trades
    • We're discussing showing a chart of the underlying during the lifetime of the trade
    • Chart your PnL over time
    • The ability to drill into markets to see a trade by trade breakdown

Hi, is the demo account limited to one position at a time?  I have a working position (price not hit my entry yet) and I'm trying to enter another position in the same market (GBPUSD) , but when I enter the order details it just amends the existing working order rather than creates a new order.  What am I doing wrong? Thanks very much.

    Hey,

I've never head the issue that it will amend the old working order. Make sure you have net off selected. If the two working orders are the same direction and same price level it may just aggregate the working order. So if you had two contracts to open at 'X' and then wanted another 2 contracts at the price 'X' it may aggregate the working orders to 4 at 'X' price.

Let me know if that works

  3. @Mercury posted this in ‘What is the USD doing?’. Nice to see someone look at the impact outside the UK markets that we’ve been analysing.

Looking at a period of USD strength to complete a retrace.  As noted elsewhere I expect GBP and EUR to rotate lower for a while, the former until the election, the latter until support is hit, which may occur around the same time as the UK election as probably clarity on Brexit would lift the Euro as well as GBP.

My call is for a Tory majority, better than May had but not off the charts.  I have spoken to many Labour voters who are conflicted and the Ashworth thing bears out what I was hearing about how the Northern areas are feeling (see link below if you haven't already seen it - priceless, almost as good as Corbyn's Andrew Neil interview).  In London many remainers I have spoken to are likely to prefer to get on with Brexit rather than let the Marxist/IRA sympathiser into No. 10, which Ashworth also seems to agree with them on..., and a lot also do not want another referendum for democratic sanctity reasons (i.e. they are accepting the defeat).  It does rather seem that whenever BoJo makes a Gaff (and I can't believe he is the best the Brits have to offer) the Labour moderates find a way to give the Tories a leg up...

A Tory majority puts Brexit to bed, other than the exact trading and political relationship with the EU, which is not nothing but at least the toy throwing will be over.  The spending plans light a fire under GBP because interests rates will have to go up.  This takes up to, say, 1.38 at which point we consolidate and then we see if a breakout is staged or a reversal kicks in, which will have more to do with USD and global economics at that point than the UK.

  4. It’s nearly time!

The General election is taking place tomorrow. If you're looking to trade over the election check out all general election articles we've written to help you with trade ideas, keep you informed and protecting yourself during volatility. These pieces include specific stocks that maybe affected as well as the FTSE and sterling pairs.

Jeremy Naylor will be doing two live shows about the election results - on Friday 13th at 6am and 7:30am (GMT). You can find them on the platform live or in the IGTV on Demand tab shortly after.  :)

Check out our podcast, that I advertised earlier in this forum, on 'Stocks to watch around the general election'.

As always, the content is not advisory it's just for trade ideas. Let the community know what you're thinking of watching/ trading. 🐮🐻

The IG's analytics looks fine, but not that useful. Thinking from a trader's perspective in designing these types of system could go a long way. In my view these are the must have for a good trade analytics feature:

    • Currently basic stuffs like custom date is missing, and analytics does not provide much info. I believe these will be added because these are the most basic stuff.
    • Probably the most important and useful addition would be to have the ability to UPLOAD a Chart Image and put a note for each trade. This feature would take this to a new level as there are no proper software that allows this making it dfficult to keep journals.

    Thank you for the feedback.

I will let the project manager know your points. It is in the testing stage at the moment so the project managers are looking for feedback on IG analytics.

Although there is still no L2 for the US market via L2, right @CharlotteIG?

That would be another point to pick up with the desk or whoever is owning that service.

That's correct we only offer L1 data for US exchanges. After speaking with the desk they confirmed that L2 data for US exchanges are too expensive. We do pass the cost of L2 data on to clients and we don't think it will be something many clients will be willing to pay (looking over one hundred per month).

  7. For the stock traders out there, we've produced a podcast 'Stocks to watch around the election'. This is only 7 minutes long and runs through different sectors and specific stock that could be positively or negatively impacted around the election on Thursday. Even if you're not a stock trader it's worth a listen.

You can find these podcasts on Spotify, Apple Podcast and Google Podcast by searching IG Trading the Market.

  8. Jeremy Naylor has done a short piece on Goldman Sachs retains forecasts and where you may find some trading ideas with gold. Gold's down 6% since high earlier on this year.

I are not telling you which way to trade, just to keep you informed.

    Hi,

I'm new to trading and recently found out about order books. I've been looking for one on the IG trading platform and I am unable to find it. Is it not on the platform at all and somewhere else (i.e. websites) or do i have a massive misconception about the topic. Thanks

If you want Level 2 data you can access it through IG using the L2 platform. This platform is free but you must have £1000 in your account and you will have to pay for exchange viewing permissions.

Orderbook or level 2 is not visible via Spreadbetting. You do not have access to underlying market. To see the orderbook you will have to subscribe to an external data provider and use a different platform (Ninjatrader, Sierra Charts and so on).

Details for the L2 platform can be found by clicking here.

You can find your data feed costs on the platform by selecting Settings> Data feeds> CFD and Share dealing.

    Thank you, that's very useful.

    2 follow-up questions:

    1) i can see that there are two kind of instruments for the VIX, one is the DFB, the other one the Dec-19 instrument. Does one of them offer lower fees?

    2) does that mean that in a scenario in which I short the VIX, I would receive a positive income for holding it overnight?

    Thanks

The DFB is the price we have created using the formula above. This has a smaller spread but you may be subject to overnight funding. The funding for last night was 0.2056699/ -0.212176. So last night if you were holding a £1 per point short position you would have been credited £0.21. It's not always that case that a short position will be a credit.

The Dec19 price is the futures contract. It has a larger spread but no overnight fees. It does however have an expiry date meaning that contract will finish. If you want to keep the exposure in the next contract you must make sure your rollover instructions are enabled. If they're enabled we will close the old contract and reopen you in the new future contract.

Hey, thanks for your message but I think you have the wrong place. This forum chat is for IG Traders, not Instagram.

Any chance you can ask the Big Whigs if they will allow us to trade stock options on the platform?

    I don't see why not?

@dmedin, this has been something that a lot of clients ask for. I will ask our feedback team.

We're set up for other markets so I'm not sure why we're holding back on stock options. If it is still a no, I will give you their reason why.

    ok nice one @Caseynotes

quickly checked today's scanner and seems to match

SAVA, BHAT, CRIS not tradeable, cause market cap too low

@CharlotteIG How can we put a request in with IG to lower that threshold to maybe $50m?;)  That would help us a lot

    image.png.9702a4f68c5bfa72535fa3c16c591421.png

@DSchenkThe desk don't offer as many smaller cap stocks because there's not as many people wanting to trade the market and due to the price the amount being hedged is small. However I can see there is demand for these so I will speak with them and update you.

I will also see if the minimum cap for US stocks can be reduced. The cap itself is only a guideline.

@CharlotteIG Can you elaborate if IG is using any set criteria to restrict clients entering either short or long and short positions in certain tickers? Or is this a manually placed restriction set by the trading desk?

@DSchenk, What is it's you're referring to, when stocks are unborrowable (meaning you can't take out short positions). If that's the case our desk set those restrictions due to us being at our maximum limit of short positions because we're unable to get any more borrow in the market.

If you're asking about going long and short in a market, you can but both ways have to be tradable and you're not allowed a guaranteed stop on both sides.

Not sure if I understood the question correctly so if you let me know if you meant something different.
