ah, you edited your post after I had replied, I would be wary of staying in short for too long during any retracement especially around these levels which is essentially the bottom of a consolidation period in what is still a bull market.

There was a very sharp turn at 14:30 GMT, will it regain the points it lost over today?

It was down 200pts, now down around 150 regained 25% of that downward movement.

    @CharlotteIG,

Palladium is without a doubt one of the top performers not only in Commodities but overall assets in 2019. The chart, trend and price action do not lie.

For me going forwards the key is whether the recent high is taken out on the upside or whether we see trend weakness with this key price area failing to be breached. That will help determine the forthcoming price direction of any trend.

This is one to watch in 2020 for sure, especially if the move upwards continues. However, if it does not then it could be one of the best assets to short in 2020 with profit taking, shorts being closed and new shorts being opened thus amplifying any move downwards.

From a trend following perspective, Palladium, has been a trend followers dream over the past 1.5 years. You may find some posts from me on this in my 'Precious Metals' thread.

I've just gone to 'Precious Metals.

Precious Metals are performing well today along with Bonds with the US-China narrative as the backdrop.

Palladium is continuing its upward trajectory. The 'Awesome Oscillator' is supporting the price action we are witnessing in this asset. It is demonstrating strong momentum in the time period of the trend which has lasted quite a while now. In fact well over a year and approaching a year and a half.

  3. I wanted to place @elle and @Caseynotes post in this forum. Palladium is the best positive commodity performer over the last this year. Who else has invested or who's using TA for this commodity? Is this one to watch for 2020?

      Hi,

I'm looking for move my ISA to a new provider and my reaserch so far indicates IG might be the best choice for my needs. However, I have two questions:

      1) You write:

The custody fee is also dependent on your trading activity, and commissions paid during the quarter will be deducted from the fee. You will be exempt from the charge if you:

      • Deal three or more times on your share dealing account during the quarter OR

Does it mean that I have to trade on my share dealing account to avoid the fee or do trades in ISA also count? And is the fee per customer or per account (i.e. 2x £24 if I have both sharedealing acc & ISA, unless I transact on both)?

      2) I'm looking for a technical screen and I know you offer ProRealTime to your CFD cusotmers. Is this also available to ISA customers?

      Many thanks

Hey @future_customer, thanks for your post.

If you have a share dealing account and an ISA account you will only have to pay £24 per quarter for the two of them. You do not have to pay the £24 twice.

If you trade on either the share dealing or ISA account they will both be deducted from the custody fee for that quarter.

The ProRealTime platform is only available for our leveraged account. We don't offer any technical analysis platforms for non-leveraged. We are looking to have our new IG platform available at the end of January/ beginning of February which should give more options such as indicators.

      @CharlotteIG,

The problem with trading Tesla is that even though the fundamentals of the company may be getting stronger if there is a sell off in US equities as institutional investors and institutional funds take profits then Tesla will be caught in the sell off.

This is why I think investing in Tesla for the long term is one thing but trading it on technicals is more difficult as even though one may be tempted to go long there could be a sell off or correction in US equities (indices) soon which could cause a large drop. I would be tempted to wait for the next big drop on Tesla before going long as I think the longer term trend manifestation will continue upwards with Tesla and there may be a better entry point ahead. Of course it could easily continue going up in which case the current entry point would have been attractive. These are the tricky decisions traders have to make and a lot will depend on their trading style and trading strategy.

For me I am content with investing in Tesla rather than trying to trade it.

Do you have a low price in mind or just waiting for the bearish movement then when it turns bullish, buy back in?

I notice on IG that 64% are short on Tesla.

As Tesla has been rising $100 over the last 15 trading days this to me does not make much sense.

Would not the shorts been stopped out long ago in this rise?

I have done very well out of this rise!!!!!

      Thanks in advance

      Bob

      An older article on this:

Tesla share price zooms past US$420. More gains coming?

Tesla is now up at around $430.. will it reach the $500 mark??

The Favourable conditions section is the part I found most useful.

@CharlotteIG this is a really good introduction, please can we see more examples of actual drawing of retracements and extensions if there is ever another video on EWP, because that is the part that is absolutely key and the bit that people need most practice with.

@dmedin, I will speak with IGTV team about this. I've passed your feedback on. Really happy that we're getting suggestions because they do listen and it means you can get videos you're interested in :)

      Hi Charlotte,

for me it’s about being able to identify what works and what doesn’t. So having the option to pull out individual trades is a must.

the p/l chart over time would be handy. For me I’d use it to get motivation from either a loss to change strategy or a profit would encourage my approach.

Lastly can we get a lifetime account analysis as I see at the moment it’s only back to 2018. Understand if the data not there thou.

      Regards

      Coombsy

Hey @Coombsy- thanks for your message.

After speaking with the product owner they confirmed that unfortunately they don't plan to make data before 2018 available. Sorry about that :(

    • @Jeremy IGTV has produced a piece with Lee Stanford from tradingcollege.co.uk about Trading the markets with Elliott Wave and Fibonacci.

Great if you're looking to get into using Elliott wave, here are some of the things Elliott waves can help you with:

      • Wave analysis identifies the trend
      • Wave analysis identifies countertrend moves within a trend
      • Wave analysis confirmed the resumption of a trend
      • Wave analysis identifies the termination of a trend
      • Wave analysis provides high probability setups.

I hope you enjoy it :)

If you don't have time to leave your suggestions on community you can contact Jeremy on Twitter @JeremyNaylor_IG.

Hi @CharlotteIG, do we pay interest on holding a long gold DFB overnight?  I can't remember.

Hey @dmedin, Spot gold overnight funding is worked out the same way as forex, TomNext rate. With these you can actually see an estimated rate for tonight. Today you can see holding a long position will mean you pay around 0.281 x bet size.

      image.png

You can add this on the platform by adding a FX, spot gold and spot silver watchlist. Then add swap bid and offer on the platform:

From what I can see on the daily time frame gold is really going nowhere, and IG don't offer the option to buy and hold (the only future is Feb 2020, and I doubt we'll get the eventual breakout before then).  Maybe put some funds in a gold-tracking ETF?

We will offer ETFs that track gold, that doesn't cost us anything to offer but the once we have that are non-leveraged only on the platform are margined at 100% to borrow. Due to the risk of these we don't offer them but I will tell the desk there is interest so they can reconsider.

Potential break lower in Gold and Silver.  It has been a bit whip-lashy of late so I will not be confident until I see key support horizontals broken but it is looking promising for a continuation of that bearish retrace.

If you look at our Chief Analysts breakdown this morning around 10am he mentioned 'A failure to push on, similar to what we have seen so far this week, would raise the prospect of a turn lower towards $1460.

      Hi there

I am writing this email to request making interest-free CFD account and also request to come up with ways of halal version of CFD.

to explain further: there are many Muslim are now beginning to start stock trading. Even from my relatives, there are so many of them are trading. Few were trading for some years and others recently started and we all understand that the monetary opportunity lies on CFD.

In our tradition, culture and religion of Islam there are lot prohibition regarding CFD.

So I ask you that along with your team to get in contact with the relevant shariah scholars in finance. Then you can sit down together and see what other alternatives and solution you can develop, which will be halal CFD. It does not need to be called CFD; it could be something similar profit wise and opportunity wise. Ask expert advise, in order to make halal shariah complaint version of CFD or similar kind like CFD which element needs to added or subtracted to/from normal CFD account/platform/scheme.

I strongly urge you that you look into this matter in helping other mind like traders.

I believe IG.com could the forefront in bringing this revolution and be the champion for people. And be the first to innovate.

      Kind regards

      AA Chowdhury

      Hey @AA Chowdhury

Thanks for you your first post. I believe you're looking for an Islamic account. I've removed your personal information from the post as it's one of the rules but I will get someone from our trading team to give you a call.

      :)
